Hand-Crafted Italian Traditions in South Maui

Walking into Fabiani's in the heart of Kihei feels less like visiting a restaurant and more like stepping into a family kitchen where the flour is still flying. This local staple has carved out a dedicated following by balancing the laid-back, sun-drenched spirit of Maui with the rigorous techniques of authentic Italian cooking.

The Menu: From Neapolitan Pies to Homemade Gelato

Chef Loren and his team focus on the details that define a scratch-made meal. The scent of charred dough from the stone oven greets you immediately, signaling their commitment to traditional Neapolitan-style pizzas. Beyond the pies, the menu shifts into hearty territory with fresh pastas and signature lasagna that tastes like it has been simmering since dawn. If you have a sweet tooth, the display case near the entrance is a trap—in the best way possible. Their house-made gelato is arguably the most refreshing way to cap off a dinner after a day of beach-hopping along the Kihei coastline.

The Atmosphere

The space is bright and casual, making it an ideal pitstop for families coming off the sand or couples looking for an unpretentious dinner spot. It isn't a place for hushed, formal whispers; the room maintains a lively, bustling hum that reflects the warm hospitality the island is known for. Be prepared for a bit of a squeeze if you visit during the dinner rush, as this local favorite tends to fill up quickly. Pro tip: secure your table early or be prepared to enjoy the wait with a glass of wine in hand, soaking in that quintessential Maui evening breeze.

Omg get pulled ribs. So amazing delicious. Bruschetta not enough, skip. People really nice here. Pay at counter then find seat they bring everything. Prices really good for island. They took us 40 minutes to closing. Food hot fast and delicious. Fries really good, best on island so far. Totally recommend just for pulled ribs on mashed potatoes. Wow best thing I tasted on island and I been to a bunch of expensive less than amazing places here. Service top notch. Cleanliness is next to godliness here, rest of island not so much. If you need italian your choices are limited. Kid had really good meatball spaghetti. Burger is good enough to buy again. Gonna hit this place up for those ribs again.

Very basic local Italian place where you order at the front door and find a place to sit. Caprese salad was undersized and nothing special. Pasta dishes were decent but under seasoned. Had to go to the bar to ask for parmigiana. No bread provided with your meal and garlic bread had to be ordered extra. The deserts are obviously the highlight of the place and get high praise. Wasn’t bad but for $100+ for two people there are simply several other places to go where you’ll get a more better experience.

We enjoyed our meal here. The food was decent but what really made the meal special were the desserts. We tried many of them and they were all amazing but my personal favorite was the red velvet cake and the peanut butter bomb.

We visited this Italian restaurant yesterday. You order and pay before you sit. They seem to have a good selection of desserts. We initially ordered some pastas and a cheese pizza. Inside the restaurant had a heavy cheese smell (not the pleasant kind) so we sat in the outside patio. Pasta’s were decent. The pasta portion is a little small in US standards but nbd. Pizza was extra burned, the whole thing was like a cardboard. I walked to the front to tell them and ask them to replace it. Met with an extra rude wait staff claiming that is how their pizza is. I asked them to come and check, he walked to our table arguing the whole time. I showed him the pizza and snapped a corner to show. At this point he was too deep into his own argument that he could not snap out. Eventually the lady in front came and refunded the pizza. My kids were kind of rattled. The $26 refund does not include the tip/tax and the bad experience we got.

I read the straightforward menu of items that all sounded delicious online before deciding to go. It wasn't quite what I was expecting but I was pleasantly surprised. When you walk in, there is a table with menus and a sign that says order at the counter. Once you order, you take a number to the table and sit down wherever you like. This idea has been done of course, I've just never seen it in an Italian restaurant that wasn't fast food. I ordered the Fettuccini Alfredo with chicken and my husband had the spaghetti with meatballs and we shared the garlic bread. We sat down and a lady from the bar brought us our drinks. And then they got really busy, really quickly. I watched as two people ran the entire front of house. Cashiering, waiting tables, bartending, packing to go orders, clearing tables, etc. and they did it all with a smile and connecting with their guests. The kitchen kept up with the crowd as well and our food came out in a timely manner starting with the garlic bread. By the way it isn't just garlic bread, it's focaccia and it is outstanding! Everything was incredible. If I lived around here I would be a regular at this establishment!

The food here is really good and the service is excellent. The serving portions are sufficiently good. The Red Velvet is one the more popular pastries that they have and is a must try.

We went for dinner at 5:30 on a Sunday evening and there were very few patrons. It did fill up more as the evening went along. Order at the counter but once you are seated, your server brings real plates, very heavy duty paper napkins, and plastic water glasses. You can sit outside under a shade cover with wind protection around the sides and no chickens or sparrows. Or choose to sit inside in the AC. N-A drinks appear to be only bottled, canned or juice boxes ... nothing from the fountain. Garlic bread is an appetizer that you order from the board, extra $ for cheese on top, extra $ for marinara. If you like thin crust pizza, then this is a real delight. It truly had a perfect crunch--was not soggy. The pasta in our lasagna was delectable. It truly just melts in your mouth. You can tell that all of the marinara is very fresh. They offered freshly grated cheese on both our pizza and lasagna. We ran out of water twice. Because you don't really have a server, just someone who brings your meal to the table with your number on it, I guess no one is watching. Once we asked though, she brought it right away. Overall, our server was very good and our food came promptly. We had to go back to the counter to order and pay for dessert because we weren't sure when we originally ordered if we would "have room." Even though the dessert is in a refrigerated case at the cashier, you do have to go back to your table and wait for it to be brought to you.

ATMOSPHERE: Nice size space in a new strip mall called South Maui Center which is on the east side of Lipoa Center. Dark decor but very inviting, very spacious with a big bar. FOOD: Caesar Salad Holy bageezuz I've found my new favorite creator of this run-of-the-mill salad. Available in side or full sizes, all the Romaine leaves were bathed in their perfectly creamy dressing that wasn't fishy or tart, but deliciously just right. I haven't had a dressing this tasty in years. Instead of traditional croutons came 2 spears of crunchy focaccia crostinis. Linguine Alle Vongole Very, very bland. The broth at the bottom of the dish had a deep garlic flavor but not much else; no saltiness or butteriness. The pasta was just plain tasteless. The clams were good. At first I declined having grated cheese added to my seafood dish - a big no-no in Italy - but after having zero flavor on my buds I flagged down the server for some. Well, a lot actually. Spaghetti Bolognese I was hesitant about ordering this as too many places make theirs sweet which is totally gross to me. A few fellow Yelpers mentioned the taste as "spot on" and "perfect". I even asked our server who denied it being sweet. Sold. And hot damn, what a killer dish it was! The sauce had the perfect consistency - meaty, a little wet, but not drowning in sauce. And best of all, it was NOT sweet but perfectly balanced with a little salt and hint of sweetness from the tomatoes' natural flavors. The pasta was al dente, and the dish came out piping hot and stayed that way the whole way through, a first for me! The portion was generous and the price affordable. Highly recommended. Penne Rosa Their version of a vodka sauce, done with mainly tomatoes and onions. The two forkfuls I tried were good, but there wasn't enough tomato flavor or salt. The dish needs some kind of salty meat like prosciutto or cheese to give it some life. The Maui Meaty All the pizzas are one size, with a thin, chewy crust. This version was topped with Italian sausage, pepperoni, and honey ham. It was tasty but a little too salty from the meats. I'd definitely try other toppings next time. SERVICE: Consistently good throughout the years. OVERALL: Extremely tasty caesar, bolognese and good pizza. Good portions & affordable. A definite return!

We shared their meat pizza along with a ham and pineapple. It was good tasting for sure, just not as robust as I would prefer, both with regards to the toppings and the dough. Atmosphere was nice, plenty of indoor AC as well as our door fresh air seating. They had a nice looking bar that would likely be fun. Crew were all very nice. They also had a bakery that really got me excited so I am looking forward to returning to try some of their very delicious looking sweets. I would also like to try their pastas at the next visit.
