Da Kitchen
About
A Taste of Island Abundance in Kihei
If you find yourself wandering the sunny shores of South Maui, Da Kitchen stands as a local institution for those who appreciate portions that don't skimp. This is not a place for white-tablecloth pretense; it is a spot where the savory scent of teriyaki glaze fills the air and the rhythmic clatter of plates signals a steady stream of hungry beachgoers.
The Art of the Hawaiian Plate Lunch
The menu here is an unapologetic celebration of local comfort food. They are widely recognized for their massive signature plate lunches, specifically the crispy fried chicken and the tender, slow-cooked kalua pork that practically shreds at the touch of a fork. The macaroni salad is a mandatory side, creamy and perfectly chilled to balance the heat of the main entrees.
For those looking for a true local challenge, the Notorious B.I.G. Moco—their colossal version of the classic Loco Moco—is a sight to behold, featuring a mountain of rice, multiple beef patties, and enough gravy to satisfy a small army. It’s an ideal stop for surfers or families heading back from the beach who need serious refueling.
What to Expect
The atmosphere is casual and bustling, often filled with the chatter of residents taking a lunch break. Be prepared for a lively, no-frills environment where efficiency takes precedence over quietude. While the parking lot can get a bit tight during the peak lunch hour, the wait is usually brief. Da Kitchen captures the essence of Kihei’s food scene: hearty, unpretentious, and deeply satisfying for anyone seeking an authentic flavor of the islands.

This place was great! I liked the teriyaki chicken the most. The service was great as well, the lady paid good attention to us. I also enjoyed the music, it was not too loud but not too quiet, we could easily talk without the music being too much or too little

We stopped by to try the musubi and the deep-fried musubi, and it’s definitely a great spot if you’re looking to try this local favorite. The atmosphere is very casual, and the service was kind and welcoming. We also ordered the teriyaki chicken and the chicken dumplings, which ended up being our favorite dish. Everything was tasty, and the overall experience was enjoyable

One of the best sit down restaurants on this island. I miss the other location from pre-lockdown. Food hits the spot every time and service is fabulous. I highly praise their laulau, kalua, katsu, fried musubi, lomi lomi, and of course the delicious poi. All love for the owners and staff❤️
