About
A Cool Escape in South Maui
When the heat radiates off the pavement in Kihei, there is really only one way to handle it: a cold, hand-scooped treat. Cones On Kihei brings a simple, unpretentious joy to the local dessert scene. It is the kind of stop you make after a morning spent snorkeling at Kamaole Beach Park, where the salt is still drying on your skin and you need something sweet before heading back to your rental.
The Flavor Profiles
This isn't your average grocery store scoop shop. The menu focuses on high-quality dairy and tropical fruit infusions that capture the essence of the island. You will find everything from classic, rich vanilla bean to vibrant, tangy lilikoi that actually tastes like the fruit plucked straight from a vine. The texture is consistently creamy, avoiding the icy crystals that plague lesser establishments.
The Local Rhythm
The shop captures the laid-back, barefoot essence of Maui. It is a small space, so you might find yourself shoulder-to-shoulder with other sun-kissed locals and visitors waiting for their waffle cones. The sound of the blender humming and the muffled chatter of people discussing their beach finds creates a quintessential neighborhood buzz. It is not a place for a quiet, long-form conversation; it is a place for quick indulgence while the sun is still high.
Practical Tips for Your Visit
- Parking: The lot can get tight during peak afternoon hours, so look for street-side options nearby if the main pull-in is full.
- Pro-Tip: Grab your cone to-go and walk across the street to catch the ocean breeze—just be mindful of how fast these treats melt in the tropical sun.
Whether you are a resident looking for a routine after-dinner ritual or a traveler searching for a genuine taste of South Maui, this spot delivers exactly what it promises: no-frills, high-quality satisfaction.

I’m not one to leave reviews unless I’m completely blown away by either great or poor customer service. The atmosphere of this ice cream shop is colder than the ice cream served. You are met by a man standing behind the counter who stares at you, doesn’t provide any information or recommendations on the flavours sold. But don’t ask for a sample, as there are more signs around the store saying “no samples” than signs with prices for the products. You’ll find out your price at the till when you go to pay $20 USD for two plain waffle ice cream cones with the tiniest portions. And if $20 USD isn’t already enough for two ice cream cones, he handles your card and verbally asks if you’d like to add a tip. As soon as you say no thank you, you’re left with complete silence as he hands you back your card and you walk out of the store without a thank you for your already overpriced service. 100% would not recommend this store and will never go back.

I have never met a more rude owner in my life. He was upset that I (the only person) came in and interrupted him. Then when I asked to flavored the Lilikoi sorbet, even though he had tasting spoons right there he said he does not allow tasting samples. When I said I was trying to decide between the Lilikoi sorbet and Haupia but only wanted to taste the sorbet to make sure it wasn’t too tart he said no. Then as I was looking I pointed out that there were dead gnats in the ice creams he grabbed a tasing spoon and removed the like no biggie. Even though at that point I was done with this mean person I asked “does showing you the gnats get me a taste of the Lilikoi sorbet” as a joke, this guy looks at me and very seriously, no tasting allowed. Goodness gracious, I was joking. I asked if he was the owner and the answer was yes. Big tall bald guy never smiles rude as hell bugs in icream I don’t know how he is still in business, no Pomo, no aloha!!! If I could I’d give this place a --5 out of 5. This guy was truly awful!!!!! This is no ma a pap store that is about!!!!!!
