Fresh Island Flavors in the Heart of South Maui

Steps away from the golden sands of Kihei, Coconut Connection serves as a quintessential pitstop for those craving the true taste of Hawaii. This isn't your typical tourist trap; it is a straightforward, open-air spot where the scent of freshly cracked coconuts and grilled local fish dominates the air. If you are looking for an unpretentious lunch after a morning session at Kamaole Beach Park, this is where the locals go.

The Maui Farm-to-Table Difference

The menu highlights the bounty of the islands. Their signature bowl features locally sourced tropical fruit paired with house-made granola, providing a refreshing crunch that balances the humidity of the afternoon. Don't overlook their specialty drinks—the star here is the young coconut water served straight from the husk, often carved right in front of you with impressive speed. The kitchen prioritizes seasonal produce, meaning you might find variations in the menu based on what is arriving from the Upcountry farms that week.

A Casual Island Vibe

The atmosphere is intentionally relaxed. You will likely find yourself ordering at a counter while listening to slack-key guitar playing softly in the background. Be prepared for a bit of a wait during peak lunch hours, and keep in mind that seating is limited to a few picnic-style tables outside. It is a humble setup, but the quality of ingredients makes it a staple for anyone exploring the coastline. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this busy stretch of Kihei, so consider walking if you are staying in the nearby condo complexes.

On my trip to Maui for a week, I stopped here three times. I’m usually one to explore different dining options when I vacation, but this restaurant hit the nail on the head. It tasted how I would imagine a Maui beachside sit down/take out restaurant to taste like. For the quality of the food, it was reasonably priced. It was great for hanging out by the beach with my family or ordering food to go instead of eating at my resort. The food was obviously fresh. I ordered the blackened mahi mahi, fish tacos, and ahi teriyaki poke bowl. Everything was well seasoned and tasted tropical, with most of the plates coming with mango or pineapple. The blackened mahi mahi was my personal favorite, but everything else is a close contender. If you happen to be near Wailea, this is a must for those craving a local restaurant with good prices and quality food. It is a quick eat and has a nice local community.

Food is great. Prices are great and vibe is great l like everyone said fish tacos were good and filling but the best were coconut shrimps. If you catch the happy hour u can get the appetizer for $10. A hidden gem.

This was exceptional food and service. I was in a party of 10 for lunch. The fish tacos are 2 enormous tacos and I could eat buckets of the fish by itself but in the taco it was awesome! Others got macadamia nut-encrusted Mahi Mahi, Mahi Mahi fish & chips, wagyu beef cheeseburgers and volcano fries, and there were nothing but smiles and happy taste buds.

The best fish plate for a casual dine in after a morning in the waters!! The lady who took our order was awesome and suggested i just do the mango salsa and wasabi sauce on the side, with a buck extra, my meal became legendary. I will definitely visit it whenever im back in mauii, also, repeating it in our 4 day trip. Its that good! Dont miss out.

Delicious tacos, quick service, not too busy when we were eating. Good size servings, and the beer came in a chilled glass! I'd definitely eat here again!

Great atmosphere and interior design elements. Friendly staff that were helpful. It is an order before you sit place, which is not my favorite way to roll. Food was excellent but less amount then I would have expected for the price.

The poke nachos were a failure. I don't think much effort went into making them or presenting them. Toppings were applied haphazardly and the dish itself lacked flavor. My wife's fish and chips were average. My mahi mahi plate lacked any pineapple as advertised on their menu and the rice was a bit overcooked.

Best food we had in Maui! We could not get enough of Coconuts Fish Café and ended up going back 3–4 times during our trip. I’m not even a big fish person, so I got the Kahlúa pork sandwich and it was absolutely to die for. So flavorful and one of the best sandwiches I’ve had. My husband got the fish tacos (their specialty) and even I tried a bite and thought they were really good. The fries were amazing too. Everything was fresh and delicious every time we went. This was easily our favorite place to eat in Maui definitely a must try!

If you’re looking for a flavor-packed meal, the fish tacos and coconut shrimp here are absolute standouts! The fish tacos are fresh and vibrant, with tender fish, crisp slaw, and fresh mango salsa on warm tortillas. The coconut shrimp appetizer has six medium size shrimp that are crunchy with just the right touch of sweetness, and the dipping sauce has the perfect combination of sweet and spicy.

We had awesome food here! I had the fish tacos and "made it a mountain" meaning the taco contents was served over rice. My husband got the mahi mahi. We loved our food. I had never had fish tacos and I think no other will compare! SO DELICIOUS! Price was reasonable, food was fresh, and service was friendly and helpful. You order at the counter but it still feels like a "sit down restaurant". I will return and HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
