Amigo's Authentic Mexican Restaurant
About
A Taste of Mexico in South Maui
When you find yourself cruising through South Kihei and craving a hearty plate of comfort food, Amigo’s serves as the go-to spot for locals and visitors alike. This isn't your white-tablecloth fine dining; it’s a straightforward, no-frills cantina where the scent of sizzling fajitas and fresh cilantro greets you the moment you walk through the door.
The Flavor Profile
The menu leans heavily into traditional Mexican staples. You’ll find the signature carnitas are the star of the show, slow-cooked until they achieve that perfect balance of crispy edges and tender, savory meat. Whether you choose a massive, foil-wrapped burrito or a plate of enchiladas smothered in their house-made red sauce, the portions are designed for those who worked up an appetite surfing at Cove Park or walking the shoreline.
Local Atmosphere
The interior feels like a casual neighborhood hangout. It’s loud, buzzy, and carries the kind of energy you want after a day in the sun. You’ll notice the clatter of plates and lively conversations filling the space, creating an environment that feels authentically unpretentious. Grab a seat, order a cold margarita, and don’t be surprised if you have to wait a moment for a parking spot in the lot—it’s a small price to pay for consistent, soul-satisfying cooking in the heart of Kihei.
Perfect For
This is the ideal destination for families who need a quick, reliable meal or friends gathering before a night out in South Maui. It’s unpretentious, loud in the best way possible, and focused entirely on delivering classic flavors without the unnecessary fluff.

We were at Amigo's on a Sunday during their Special Hour from 3 to 6 pm and we had delicious taquitos, nachos with delicious cheese, sour cream, guacamole and ground beef which we washed down with their Signature Amigo's Mai Tais! Absolutely Ono! Mahalo Nui Loa Amigo's for the great tasting food, delicious cocktails and top notch customer service from the hardworking servers. We will be back😉🤙

We were looking for something quick, but not fast food and thought Mexican would be a nice change of pace while on Maui. Unfortunately, this ended up being one of the worst Mexican meals I’ve had. Like a lot of non-chain Mexican spots, it’s in a shopping center. We went early (around 11:30am) and were seated right away. The menu setup was a little strange: breakfast/lunch/dinner with breakfast available all day, plus a “Happy Hour” from 8–11am and again 3–5pm. Not necessarily a dealbreaker, just odd. Service was both fast and slow at the same time. Our server seemed rushed, would swing by and disappear before we could ask a simple question, yet the food came out incredibly fast; which, in hindsight, should’ve been a warning. My wife asked about the fish tacos and got a confusing explanation of the menu version, then was pitched an off-menu version. What arrived was… strange. She ended up eating only the fish out of them. It was chimichanga special day (Wednesday, $12), so I ordered the carnitas chimichanga and paid an additional $3.50 for rice and beans. The chimichanga was awful; fried in oil that clearly tasted old and overused. The pork had zero seasoning and the whole thing was dry. The refried beans tasted like they were warmed straight from a can, topped with shredded cheese that looked like it came out of a bag. Rice was average at best. I ate about half and called it. To top it off, the server came back, looked at the plates and said “You’re done,” then cleared everything immediately. I’m sure it was obvious we weren’t enjoying it. With waters to drink, it still came out to around $45 with tip. Chips and salsa were honestly the best part and even those were limited. If you’re visiting Maui and craving Mexican, I’d recommend trying somewhere else

We were craving Mexican and wanted simple ground beef tacos. We asked for them to be deconstructed so they travel to our hotel. They gave us ground beef, lettuce, cheese, hard shells and salsa all separate. We were so excited to have good quality, easy and familiar flavors. We also ordered the refried beans. They came out in 5 minutes and the service was terrific. We were really happy and the value was great. We were there on Taco Monday and got all the food for $30. For Maui prices this was a great deal. We will definitely be back and recommend to any locals or tourists wanting basic and delicious Mexican.

The food and service were absolutely outstanding. We ordered the vegetarian quesadillas and the tostada, and both dishes were packed with flavor, clearly made with fresh ingredients and a lot of care. The seasoning was spot on, and the portions were very satisfying. Despite being a party of four, the service was impressively fast and well organized—we were seated, served, and finished within about 45 minutes without ever feeling rushed. The staff was friendly, attentive, and efficient, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I will definitely be coming back again before my trip ends, and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for delicious, well-prepared vegetarian options paired with excellent service.

My family and I went to eat at Amigo’s and we loved it 🥰 it was delicious and as Mexican as it can get. My husband and I love spicy food and they had a hot sauce for every level. I totally recommend eating here. They have a large selection of entrees for kids and adults.

Amigo's is my fave Mexican restaurant on the rock. They have two other locations in Kahului and Napili. ATMOSPHERE: Intimate space in Azeka Marketplace. High ceilings, lots of windows, good-sized bar area. FOOD: Ground Beef Burrito My go-to. I axe the rice and pico for a simpler flavor profile. Ground Beef Nachos THE best nachos on the rock. Heavy on the toppings too. SERVICE: Hit or miss. OVERALL: The "place with the best Mexican food" debate in America is a personal choice. I've had the authentic stuff in Puerto Vallarta and Amigo's is right up there with them, IMO.

Top for Mexican food! My favorite is the shrimp taco salad and the margarita!!! I love that they still do not charge for the chips and salsa. The service is amazing and they also have happy hour items if you get there early enough.
