1054togoshi
About
A Slice of Tokyo in South Maui
Finding a genuine, fuss-free bowl of ramen in Kihei can be a challenge, but 1054togoshi changes the local landscape. Tucked away from the main tourist drag, this spot focuses on the fundamentals of Japanese comfort food. When you walk in, the immediate aroma of slow-simmered pork broth hits you, setting the stage for a meal that feels like a quick trip to a Tokyo neighborhood shop.
The Ramen Craft
The menu is intentionally concise, allowing the kitchen to master their signature tonkotsu ramen. The broth is rich and opaque, clinging perfectly to the firm, thin noodles. You will notice the balance of the umami-forward shoyu base paired with perfectly jammy soft-boiled eggs. It is the kind of food that warms you up after a windy day at the beach.
The Kihei Experience
The space is functional and minimalist, prioritizing efficiency over elaborate decor. It is an ideal stop for solo diners or small groups looking for a quick, high-quality lunch or a casual dinner. A minor note for visitors: the shop is quite compact, so you might find yourself shoulder-to-shoulder with other ramen enthusiasts during the peak dinner rush. Parking in the surrounding commercial area can get busy, so grab a spot early and enjoy the savory simplicity that defines this South Maui .

Food: 11/10 Service: 20/10 (unbelievable) Atmo: 10/10 I can't express how much I loved this place. I haven't experienced this level of omotenashi outside of Japan. I felt so valued by Tomoe, the server, who extended such gracious hospitality for my birthday. All the little things they did to make our meal special were so amazing and personal. Every dish was delicious. I even got to try a couple of new dishes I haven't seen before (takowasabi & mozuku) which made it even more special. The uni was fabulous. The sushi rice was on point. Unagi was delicious with a slight char, which made it even more delicious. Service was the very definition of omotenashi: so welcoming, warm, and kind. I couldn't recommend this place more. It's a must-try spot if you're on Maui.

This restaurant is truly underrated. The quality and freshness of the fish, along with the craftsmanship of the sushi, stand out and surpass many other options on the island. As a small operation, service can occasionally be slower during busy periods, but the food is well worth the wait. While the setting is simple and doesn’t offer a scenic view, a slightly dimmer ambiance could further enhance the dining experience. Overall, an excellent destination for high-quality sushi. You get what you pay for $$$$$.

1054TOGOSHI’s owner, Satoe, is refreshingly open with telling her story, in which it is clear that she is passionate about mixing the Aloha spirit with Omotenashi, or Japanese spirit. Through her sweet and cheerful hospitality, and her husband Chef Manabu’s impeccable sushi craft, we truly felt the mixing of these spirits at dinner tonight in their restaurant. In a world today that can feel artificial and impersonal, this wife-and-husband run restaurant that feels like home made us feel truly connected to the local Maui spirit. Not to mention, every piece of sushi that Chef prepared was incredible too. For a delicious, fresh sushi dinner with heart, please check them out when you visit Maui.
