The Beach Bus
About
A North Shore Pit Stop with Soul
Parked right along the rugged North Shore coastline in Kahuku, The Beach Bus is far more than just a place to grab lunch. It is a colorful, converted school bus that serves as a landmark for surfers and travelers making their way toward the Banzai Pipeline. The atmosphere here is unapologetically laid-back—expect the scent of sea salt mixing with the aroma of searing garlic and buttery shrimp.
Authentic Island Flavor
The menu leans heavily into the local traditions that define Kahuku’s culinary scene. You will find classic garlic shrimp plates that are messy, aromatic, and perfectly executed. Each serving arrives with a generous heap of rice, soaking up the savory sauce that locals travel miles for. It is the kind of food that tastes better when enjoyed on a tailgate while watching the Pacific swells.
What to Know Before You Go
This is a quintessential outdoor dining spot. Seating is informal—mostly picnic benches scattered around the bus—so keep an eye on the weather. If you are heading up the coast for a day of beach hopping, this is an essential refueling point. Just be prepared for the loose gravel parking area, which can get a bit tight during peak lunch hours. The service is friendly and moves at an island pace, allowing you to actually slow down and enjoy the view of the surrounding palms rather than rushing to your next destination.

I hadn’t been to this place in five years, but it’s just as good as I remembered! I ordered the Churro Oreo Ice Cream Waffle and the Cuban sandwich with fried cheese—everything was delicious. The service was great too; the guy working there was super nice. Honestly, this is the best food truck I’ve ever been to! 🌺

I cannot even begin to say how good the food is here. I've eaten here 3 times on my trip and completely went fat kid and tried a much as I could. The food is made well and full of flavor. The people who work here are warm, welcoming, and friendly as they get. I met amazing people while I was here the first time and made lifelong friends. The owner came out and sat and chit-chatted and was so warm and kind. If you want good food, good people, and to eat way too much great food, this is the place.

Took a cruise out to Kauhuku to check out this beach bus and see what the hype was about. It is located near all the other food trucks. Ordered some of their food and desserts. Also had their freshly squeezed lemonade, and it was pretty tasty for me. Kids loved the mozzarella sticks. Waffle sticks were okay. The bus burger was good. It was like every other burger, nothing fancy. Spicy chicken burger was spicy, but for me, it was like there was something missing to that spice. Loaded fries and nuggets with fries were okay. I think the best dish there was their deep fried cheesecake. It had sooooo much flavors popping in our mouths that we really enjoyed it. 😋 Also, I had the corn with everything on it, but my daughter didn't like it. It was too dry and lacking flavors for me since I had to eat it all. Lol Would I come back? Definitely would just for those deep fried cheesecakes 😍😍 #SupportLocalAlways🤙🤙
