About
A Taste of Bangkok on the North Shore
When you find yourself cruising through Kahuku after a long day of chasing waves or exploring the coast, the scent of sizzling garlic and lemongrass serves as a reliable beacon. Thai Zapp brings a sharp, acidic punch to the North Shore food scene, moving well beyond standard takeout fare. The space is modest, often buzzing with locals grabbing a quick, steaming box of pad see ew between errands.
The Heat of the Islands
The menu leans heavily into the 'Zapp' philosophy—a northeastern Thai term for flavors that are bold, spicy, and deeply satisfying. Their papaya salad is a standout, arriving with a crunch that echoes through the room, dressed in a lime-forward dressing that wakes up your palate. Expect authentic heat levels; if you ask for it spicy, the kitchen delivers a slow-building burn that pairs perfectly with a cold Thai iced tea.
Know Before You Go
This is a quintessential roadside stop where the emphasis is firmly on the plate rather than the presentation. Seating is functional and simple, making it ideal for surfers needing a high-calorie recovery meal or families looking for a no-fuss dinner. Keep in mind that the parking lot can get a bit tight during peak lunch hours, and you might have to navigate around fellow travelers to find a spot. It is the kind of neighborhood joint where the hum of a ceiling fan mixes with the sound of the wok, offering a brief, flavorful respite from the island breeze.

I ordered the fried calimari and the green chicken curry. The green curry was amazing and served hot as it should be. It took a bit to cool down, but it was worth the wait. Meanwhile, I was going to start on the calamari and basically I received 1 big clumped up ball of calamari. Seems she just took it out of the freezer and threw it in the fryer. It tasted ok because the oil seemed mixed with other foods. The worst part was halfway when I bit into it, I got a clump of raw flour. I wasn't wanting a royal greeting or any for that matter, but it seemed like I was bothering her and keeping her from being on her phone. Would I go back, maybe. The curry was really good and I actually want to try the pad thai if I do pass by there again.

Great little spot! We have been coming by the old sugar mill for YEARS and they finally renovated it and got new tenants. We were excited that it was Thai food. Food was pretty good. We had the Pad Thai and the Pad Seiw. Both were good and the Pad Seiw had fresh looking extra thick rice noodles that were really good. Sauce wasn’t as sweet as we hoped though. Pad Thai tasted very good and was traditionally sweet. Big fresh shrimp with it. Spring rolls were good too. Great new local spot!
