Papis Tacos
About
A North Shore Flavor Staple
When you are cruising along the Kamehameha Highway through Kahuku, the scent of seasoned carne asada and freshly pressed corn tortillas drifting through the air is your best indicator that you have arrived. Papis Tacos brings a vibrant, unpretentious slice of Mexico to the laid-back rhythm of Oahu’s North Shore. The shack-style setup is exactly what you want after a morning of chasing waves or exploring the nearby shrimp trucks.
The Culinary Highlights
The menu keeps things focused and high-quality. The star of the show is undeniably the al pastor, marinated in a spice blend that balances earthy chiles with the sweetness of pineapple. If you prefer something with a bit more heat, the spicy chicken tacos offer a clean, sharp burn that pairs perfectly with their house-made salsas. Everything is served piping hot, right off the griddle, with just enough cilantro and onion to cut through the richness of the meats.
The Practical Reality
This is a quintessential roadside stop. Do not expect white-tablecloth service; you are here for the paper-plate authenticity. Seating is minimal and entirely outdoors, which means you are eating in the breezy Kahuku salt air. Be prepared to navigate the gravel lot, and if you go during the lunch rush, expect a queue that spills out toward the roadside. It is the kind of place where locals linger over bottles of Jarritos, watching the island traffic crawl by, making it the perfect pit stop for surfers, families, and anyone craving a genuine bite before heading toward the Banzai Pipeline.

The BEST fish tacos! If you’re doing the drive to north shore do yourself a favour and stop here for lunch. The tacos were amazing but I would definitely recommend the fish taco combo with rice and beans.

Fish tacos were the total bomb! Super good, highly recommend. Salsa is super good as well. Beans and rice were pretty good. Double shelled tacos, little messy, but 100% worth it.

Papi’s is a food truck in a North Shore neighborhood institution that includes the famous Giovanni’s (too buttery for me). You will find food trucks aplenty anchored by Seven Brothers kitchen and market. We got the three taco combo to try the shrimp, fish, and carnitas. They are relatively small and come in threes. Made with corn tortillas, cilantro, and a sour cream- guacamole sauce they are full of flavor. Beans and rice come on the side and being from Phoenix I know tacos and these stand up. Seating is plentiful on this Sunday with picnic tables everywhere and beautiful weather. The aloha service was suspect and didn’t really feel like the lady was there to do anything but take orders. At the End of the Day this is a taste choice out of the plethora of food trucks. Look for my review of Deez Bowls too. Solid choice if you’re craving a taco spread at a reasonable cost!
