A Slice of Thailand on the Road to Hana

Finding authentic Thai cuisine at the end of the winding highway to Hana can feel like uncovering a hidden treasure. Ae's Thai Kitchen brings bold, aromatic spices to the lush landscape of East Maui, offering a refreshing departure from standard roadside fare. As you step up to the window, the air is heavy with the scent of lemongrass, galangal, and searing chili oil, a sensory promise of the heat to come.

The Flavor Profile

The menu is anchored by traditional staples prepared with island-grown produce whenever possible. Their Pad Thai arrives with a perfect balance of tamarind tang and crunch from crushed peanuts, while the Green Curry packs a sinus-clearing punch that pairs perfectly with a side of fragrant jasmine rice. It is the kind of food that warms you up after a long, rainy trek through the tropical rainforest.

What to Expect

This is a casual, no-frills outdoor dining experience that thrives on its simplicity. You will likely be eating your meal on a picnic bench while keeping an eye out for the local roosters that patrol the area. Service is honest and straightforward, matching the laid-back pace of Hana town. Be prepared for a short wait during peak lunch hours when the sightseeing traffic hits its stride, and keep in mind that the spice levels are no joke—if you order it 'Thai hot,' they genuinely mean it.

Ideal for road-trippers looking for a hearty, authentic meal before heading back out or settling into a quiet evening in East Maui, Ae's Thai Kitchen serves as a vital fuel stop for those seeking comfort food with a spicy kick.

My friends followed my review and were absolutely not disappointed. Thai people truly know how to do it right! From the tacos and burgers to the authentic Thai food, Ae’s Thai Kitchen is simply amazing. The restaurant is also incredibly clean, and every dish is made with quality, freshness, and care. Thank you for serving such delicious and high-quality food to all of us. For anyone visiting, this place is definitely worth stopping by — you won’t be disappointed. The service is outstanding, and great service is truly the heart of every successful business. Delicious, fresh, clean, and made with love. The food here is actually outstanding. Would highly recommend any of their local top picks. The Coconut Mahi and Crispy pork belly is a killer combo. Pad Thai is good as well. Service doesn’t take too long, and there’s tons of seating in the food truck park. Some of the best food we had in Hawaii.

Nice menu, not for me. I got the coconut mahi and shrimp. I grew up eating fish all the time but coconut shavings on fish isn’t something I’ve had before and it really didn’t sit well with me. My wife loved it so take my review with a grain of salt.

Best food truck out of the bunch! Tastes delicious and the night times vibes hit just right. Coconut shrimp not over fried, and the pad thai just oiled enough.

Ae’s Thai Kitchen is the real deal. After the long drive to Hana, this place hits perfectly. The food is insanely flavorful, clearly made fresh, and packed with heat if you want it. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and it blows away most sit-down Thai restaurants I’ve had. No frills, no nonsense, just incredible food from a truck that knows exactly what it’s doing. If you’re in Hana and don’t stop here, that’s a mistake.

A Thai food truck. The green papaya salad and garlic shrimp were delicious, but the pad thai was a bit disappointing.

We got the crispy pork belly and coconut Mahi, holy crap, might have been our best meal on the islands! The sauce they give on the side which most definitely is authentic is SO good. Highly recommend giving this place a try, they should have 5 stars in my opinion.

The best things going in Hana at night especially. Great portions, tasty food, and costs half of what you get at the two restaurants in town. Good selection between the trucks. Stayed for two nights and ate here both nights

Hands down the best Pad See Ew I had in Hawai‘i! Ae’s Thai Kitchen may be a food truck, but the flavor rivals many sit-down restaurants. The Chicken Pad See Ew was incredible — perfectly stir-fried noodles with that rich, smoky wok flavor, tender chicken, and just the right balance of sweetness and savoriness. The portion size was generous, and every bite tasted fresh and authentic. If you’re craving Thai comfort food, this dish alone is worth the stop. Simple, delicious, and made with care — exactly what you hope for from a hidden gem food truck.

Stopped by this Thai food truck on the Road to Hana. We ordered the pumpkin curry soup, the crispy basil chicken with rice, and the garlic shrimp with rice. The menu didn’t have a ton of choices, but it covered the basics and had a few interesting options. The pumpkin curry soup honestly surprised me. I don’t usually like pumpkin and it didn’t sound that appetizing, but I wanted to try something different. It turned out flavourful and creamy, mixed well with the spices, definitely better than I expected. The crispy basil chicken was solid. Well seasoned and tasty, though not as spicy as I had hoped. It still paired nicely with the vegetables and rice. The garlic shrimp was the standout. Juicy, cooked deliciously, and packed with garlic flavor, easily my favorite of the three. Overall, the food was good and enjoyable, but the portion sizes didn’t quite feel worth the price but it’s still a nice stop on the Road to Hana.
