Millyard Hamburger Steak House
About
A Taste of Old-School Maui
Tucked away in the industrial heart of Wailuku, Millyard Hamburger Steak House serves as a reliable anchor for locals craving straightforward, hearty meals. Stepping inside feels like hitting the pause button on the modern tourist rush. The room hums with the clatter of plates and the low-frequency chatter of residents grabbing a lunch break, offering an authentic glimpse into the daily rhythm of Central Maui.
The Signature Comforts
The kitchen leans into island-style diner traditions, where the hamburger steak takes center stage. You will find it swimming in a rich, savory brown gravy that clings to the rice—a quintessential comfort food profile. If you have a hearty appetite, the portions are designed to keep you going through a long shift. The menu doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, preferring instead to perfect the kind of plate lunch staples that define the local palate. You might catch the scent of searing onions and beef the moment you push open the door.
Tips for Your Visit
Keep in mind that this is a working neighborhood, so parking can be a bit of a localized puzzle during the mid-day rush. It isn’t a place for white-tablecloth service or elaborate plating; it is a spot for diners who prioritize flavor and value over flair. The acoustics can get lively when the room is full, making it better suited for a quick, focused meal with colleagues or a low-key solo lunch than for a quiet romantic dinner. If you find yourself navigating the winding streets of Wailuku and need a solid, no-nonsense meal that hits the spot without pretense, this is where the locals go.

I've been here once years ago but never wrote a review. I was craving hamburger steak, so what better reason to give them another try? ATMOSPHERE: The simple, small eatery is located at the entrance of the Millyard industrial park in a small strip mall. There are only two 4-seat tables inside and a take-out counter. I'd guesstimate 99% of the business is take-out. MENU: Hawaiian local, Korean dishes, seafood, chow fun, burgers, saimin, and soups. FOOD: Loco Moco The 2 big homemade patties were moist with a great charred flavor and texture, covered in a medium-dark brown gravy that could've used a pinch more of salt, and topped with a medium-fried egg. The steamed rice was good. The mac salad was overcooked, under-flavored and peppery. SERVICE: The owner is a nice guy, very friendly and personable. OVERALL: Nice menu, good loco moco, generous portions, weak mac salad.

We hit this place to grab a quick, inexpensive bite after a long day of travel. We got great food and great service. The atmosphere is not the most awesome, but the owner and his wife were wonderful. Quick and simple. Had the hamburger steak, and I might try the Korean BBQ next time.
