Overview & Vibe

Tucked away in the historic charm of Wailuku, Four Sisters Bakery is a quintessential Maui institution that embodies the spirit of local island baking. Housed in a modest, sun-faded yellow building that feels like a hidden time capsule, this bakery is far more than its unassuming exterior suggests. There is no formal indoor seating here; instead, the experience is all about the anticipation of walking out with a warm, paper-wrapped box of authentic Hawaiian treats. It is a no-frills, authentic stop where the aroma of rising dough and sweet frying malasadas greets you before you even cross the threshold.

Menu Highlights & Must-Try Dishes

  • Classic Malasadas: These Portuguese-style fried donuts are the undisputed stars of the show. Light, airy, and coated in just the right amount of sugar, they are best enjoyed while still piping hot.
  • Buttery Sweet Rolls: A local favorite, these soft, pillowy rolls are famous across the island. While personal preferences on the "buttery" finish vary, they remain a staple for those seeking a nostalgic, comforting snack.
  • Assorted Local Pastries: The bakery offers a revolving variety of baked goods. From flaky delicacies to sweet, fruit-filled bites, it is highly recommended to sample a variety to see what the oven has produced that morning.

Insider Dining & Tips

Because Four Sisters Bakery is a true neighborhood favorite, timing is everything. The bakery operates on a 'first-come, first-served' basis and is known to sell out of their most popular items early in the morning. We suggest arriving shortly after they open to ensure you get the freshest selection. Since there is no indoor seating, grab your treats and take a short stroll through the charming streets of Wailuku, or head to a nearby park to enjoy your breakfast al fresco. Bring cash just in case, and be prepared for a short line—it is well worth the wait.

Don't think I'll be back

We were all pumped up about reading how their buttery rolls were so good. We decided on getting 6 rolls since we both love bread. We got back in the car and dug in. The inside was injected with some yellow liquid and the entire bottom is dipped in the same thing, it was definitely not butter. <br />One bite was all we needed to decide these just weren't are thing.

Four Sisters Bakery in Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii

This place has the best malasadas which were introduced to Hawaii by Portuguese settlers. It is in Wailuku which is an old town with a certain charm. The old, little yellow building is small and easy to pass by without noticing. The sign is nearly worn off the window. The staff inside is friendly. Try a variety of the baked goods. The malasadas are my favorite. It is hard to not scarf them all down. Go early because they sometimes run out. The is no indoor seating but a park is nearby or you can stroll around while eating the good pastries. They smell so good you will want to eat them as soon as you walk out.
