A Wailuku Neighborhood Staple

Stepping into Mike's Restaurant feels like an unfiltered trip back to old-school Hawaii. Located right in the heart of Wailuku, this casual spot serves as a reliable anchor for locals looking for hearty, no-frills plates. You won't find white tablecloths or complex fusion concepts here; instead, the room is filled with the steady hum of conversation and the rhythmic clatter of plates being cleared from Formica tables.

The Flavor of Maui

The menu leans heavily into traditional comfort food, focusing on generous portions that define island-style dining. It is the kind of kitchen that understands the importance of a well-executed loco moco—rich gravy, perfectly cooked rice, and a patty that reminds you why this dish is a regional icon. For those navigating the busy streets of Central Maui, it offers a quick, satisfying lunch break that doesn't sacrifice substance.

What to Expect

While the pace is brisk, the service is defined by that characteristic Maui straightforwardness. You might find parking a bit of a challenge during the midday rush, as space is limited in this historic part of town, but the convenience of its location makes it an easy stop if you are running errands around the County Building. It's a place best suited for hungry travelers or workers seeking a functional, filling meal without any pretension. The air often carries the scent of savory grilled meats and fresh coffee, signaling that the kitchen is working at full capacity to keep the neighborhood fed.

Piles of noodles tiny bits of actual choices. Terrible orange chicken tasted like old thighs with yellow sauce. Nasty.

This is a regular stop for our family. A two item plate runs $13. The chow mein noodles are super tasty and portions are large. Mochiko chicken, black bean chicken and garlic eggplant are some of my favorites. Give it a try if you haven't before. The value can't be beat!

The guy at the front was beyond rude, and it was twenty dollars for a bbq plate lunch where the Mac salad was like mush and miracle whip, and the meat was maybe a step above dollar store quality. The place was filthy and the worker was eating a mountain of clams in the center of the restaurant. They need a visit from kitchen nightmares asap. @gordonramsay

Mouth agape is how I looked as I left Mike's empty handed. I couldn't believe how I was treated!? My Saturday's work lunch is always out on the town as I have 1.5 hours to spare. On this particular day I thought of returning to Mike's for some noodles, specifically the gomoku ramen. As I entered the empty eatery, no one was behind the counter but my presence did trigger a door chime. I looked around for a soul for about two minutes. Finally, the owner Mike came from the other end of the restaurant. No smile, no eye contact, only a look of inconvenience with a "Can I help you"? As he made his way behind the food counter, I asked what kind of broth is in the gomoku ramen. He walks back the other way looking for something. With his back now to me, he annoyingly says "What"?! I ask again what kind of broth is in the gomoku ramen. He pointed to the picture menu of the shoyu ramen and mumbled something along the lines of "You should know" or "You ate this before". Not knowing what he said, I asked if the broth is clear. Irritatingly, he mumbles something but I did make out "pork bones" in the sentence. Before I could make a decision, he mumbles something again with an "I cannot help you anymore" at the end of the rant and simply walked back into the kitchen without a care in the world, leaving me alone at the counter. Stunned, I left and got lunch from another business down the street. OVERALL: Good luck to you, sir. Your message was well received.

I’ve always had a good experience eating the food here, typically I walk in and order to take home. I’ve always ordered BBQ/teriyaki chicken, hamburger steak and the duck. I have never been disappointed with the quality and authenticity, I would Highly recommend checking it out. Definitely try the duck at some point, it is so ono.

Should be shut down by the Health Department. The place is filthy, food temperature was well below health standards. They had one bottle of soy sauce in the restaurant and had yesterday's food stick to the outside of our. Filthiest Chinese restaurant I've ever seen.

If you want take out Chinese food, this is the place where it’s at. I like to order from their hot bar. You can choose from white rice, noodles, or fried rice and 1-3 entrees. My usual order would consist of: all fried rice, Kau yuk, and egg fu young. I’ve had their duck and char siu as well. I’ve been coming to this place for years anytime I’m feeling like having Chinese take out. It’s affordable and flavorful. They have fast service as well anytime you’re ordering from the hot bar, so great for people on the go.

Just picked up our order and the Mixed Plate is not even hot, hamburger is tough, chicken katsu and gravy is cold. Definitely not going to order here again and would not recommend to family & friends.
