Guava Tree Bar & Grill
About
A Taste of Wailuku Soul
When you find yourself roaming the historic streets of Wailuku, the Guava Tree Bar & Grill offers a refreshing pause from the typical tourist tracks. This is where the local community gathers, drawn by the scent of house-made sauces and the rhythmic clatter of a busy open kitchen. It is an unpretentious sanctuary perfect for those who want to eat like a Maui resident rather than a visitor.
Island Comfort on a Plate
The menu leans heavily into local comfort food, with portions designed to satisfy a hearty appetite after a long day at Iao Valley. You will find that the kitchen prioritizes fresh, regional ingredients, often highlighting classic Hawaiian fusion techniques that keep the flavors grounded and familiar. The signature guava-glazed meats are a standout, carrying a balance of sweetness and acidity that cuts through the richness of the char-grilled proteins.
The Rhythm of the Grill
The atmosphere here is distinctly casual and social. You might notice the chatter bounces off the walls during the busy lunch rush, creating a high-energy environment that feels authentic to Maui. Seating can get a bit snug when the surf report is good and the locals file in, but that is part of the charm—you are never far from a good conversation or a recommendation for the next best surf break. The staff moves with a practiced efficiency, ensuring that your cold beverage is never empty while you wait for the main event to come off the flames. If you are looking for an honest, flavorful meal in the heart of the island, this Wailuku institution is the place to be.

Lovely experience for dinner. Went with a baby in tow. Vibes were super laid back, staff was exceedingly friendly and attentive. And the food, so good, and massive portions. You will not leave hungry. Wasabi fries were slamming

Can’t recommend Guava Tree Bar and Grill enough if you’re staying in Wailuku. My husband and I tried the spicy shrimp & the Mahi Mahi & chicken katsu and both dishes were super flavorful & fresh! The mahi mahi was my favorite along with the spicy sauce on the shrimp. Wish we would’ve found this spot sooner during our stay in Maui! Also, huge shoutout to Issa for the great service! Hope to come back soon.

This place has some really good eats. The price was comparable to the portion size. Also, the lady who took our order was nice.

Not much to say on this, it has changed a lot since watercress and was my to go place for ox tail soup but that recipie changed drastically as well and is no longer good to me, tasted more like teriyaki yoshida sauce soup.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this chill spot in Hawaii, and I was thoroughly impressed with the experience. The food was absolutely delicious and offered great value compared to nearby restaurants. As a bonus, the restaurant was full of local people, which added to the authentic atmosphere. But the real highlight of the evening was the live Hawaiian band that played traditional music daily. The music added a beautiful, cultural touch to the dining experience and really made the evening special. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Hawaii who wants to experience delicious, local cuisine and be treated to some authentic Hawaiian music.

Excellent food and service. Shrimp Tacos, Wasabi Fries, and Poke were to die for and my party said the Garlic Butter Mahi was great as well. Make sure to stop by!
