About
The Beating Heart of Wailuku Nightlife
Stepping into Da Babooze Bar feels like pulling up a chair in a friend’s garage, provided that friend has an endless supply of ice-cold beer and a jukebox that knows exactly what you need to hear. This corner of Wailuku isn't trying to be a polished cocktail lounge or a trendy hotspot. It is a genuine, no-frills neighborhood tavern where the walls are steeped in local history and the air carries a faint, familiar scent of salty ocean breeze and classic pub snacks.
Why Locals Keep Coming Back
The charm here lies in the simplicity. It’s the kind of place where you come to disconnect from the digital world and connect with whoever is sitting on the stool next to you. Expect loud laughter, the occasional clatter of pool balls echoing from the back of the room, and a draft beer selection that favors reliability over pretension. The lighting is low and forgiving, making it an ideal hideout for those looking to avoid the tourist-heavy crowds found further down the Maui coast.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
If you're planning a visit to this Main Street staple, bring some patience for parking—street spots in this part of Wailuku can be a bit of a scavenger hunt during the early evening rush. It’s best suited for those who appreciate a raw, authentic tavern culture where the drinks are poured strong and the atmosphere is unpretentious. Don’t expect a printed menu with complex flavor profiles; this is a place to settle in, relax, and let the island time set the pace for your night.

If you’re looking for a pool table on the island Kahului Wailuku, this is your only option now when the IPA is running, it’s a great place and I guarantee you will not be the oldest person there. They got a pool table. They run tournaments people. They are very friendly and if you’re missing a dive bar from wherever you’re from this will be the place for you.

We stopped in for an afternoon cocktail based on reviews and it was exactly as described: dark, local, and filled with the friendliest locals ever. I asked for a refreshing, sweet drink and was given a “starburst,” which was exactly as requested. Perfect stop
