Bay View Cafe
About
A Peak at Maui’s Best Kept Secret
Perched high above the lush canopy of the Iao Valley, Bay View Cafe offers more than just a meal; it provides a panoramic perspective of the Wailuku coastline that most tourists miss entirely. You will find this spot tucked within the Maui Tropical Plantation, where the scent of freshly blooming hibiscus and damp tropical earth greets you before you even step through the doors.
The Flavor of the Valley
The menu leans heavily into local sourcing, focusing on ingredients plucked straight from the surrounding agricultural landscape. Expect heavy hitters like their signature Ahi Poke bowls, which feature fish so fresh it practically melts, served alongside warm, fluffy jasmine rice. The kitchen doesn't shy away from hearty, island-style comfort food, making it an ideal pit stop for hikers coming down from the West Maui Mountains who are desperate for a cold iced tea and a substantial bite.
What to Expect
The atmosphere is casual and open-air, allowing the gentle trade winds to cool down the dining room. Be prepared for a bit of a breeze—you might want to secure your napkins. It is a fantastic choice for those looking to avoid the frantic pace of the resort areas, offering a quiet, unpretentious slice of authentic Maui life. While the parking lot can get a bit tight during the mid-day rush when tours are arriving, the view of the valley floor makes any minor maneuvering worth the effort. Whether you are grabbing a quick coffee or settling in for a full lunch, the relaxed, slow-paced rhythm of this Wailuku gem is exactly what a Hawaiian getaway should feel like.

Food was high quality, as the other reviews noted. But we had to wait 50 minutes for it. We arrived when the parking lot was almost full (around lunch time), and after placing our order and paying, were told that it’d take 20 mins. As we’re on vacation and our time is precious, I didn’t appreciate the way our time was handled—the owner should’ve said before we paid, that it’d take 50-60 minutes, because we would’ve gone somewhere else and perhaps come back later to try the BVC.

Not one of but THE BEST loco mocos I've ever had! The rice was perfectly soft, the gravy was delish and, if course, the beef patty was cooked perfectly. The view is wonderful as well. We will definitely be back!

One of my favorite burgers on the island! Shrimp bowl and fish tacos are also a couple of my go-to. View can't be beat (in my opinion). And of course, they have a strong cup of coffee to wake you up for the rest of the drive.
