Bamboo Grille

Bamboo Grill in Wailuku is the definition of a great local comfort-food stop — casual, unpretentious, and exactly the kind of place you’re happy you found. We had the Katsu Moco and the Sumo Moco, and both hit the spot: hearty, satisfying, and built for serious appetites. The katsu brought that crispy, savory comfort-food vibe, and the sumo moco was just pure island-style “fuel” in the best way. but the Sumo Moco was the star if you’re hungry-hungry: it’s a trio of meats — ground beef, sliced beef, and chicken — all piled together into one hearty, satisfying plate that feels like pure island fuel. We also shared a banana macadamia nut pancake, and it was genuinely delicious — a perfect sweet counterbalance to the savory plates. If you want something that feels very local and delivers big, comforting flavors, Bamboo Grill is absolutely worth the stop.

Had the ox tail mein and the Kalua pork hash with fried rice breakfast. Large portions, we took lots of leftovers for later. Great flavor, served hot and wonderful service. Wonderful art on the wall from Maui artist Rachael Ray.

At Bamboo Grill, I ordered the oxtail soup, which comes with a scoop of rice and the choice of macaroni or salad. The oxtail was flavorful and tender truly a hidden gem in Maui! While the location can be a bit challenging to find, it's well known among locals. The service was average, they were out of most drinks on the menu. The atmosphere is casual, resembling your neighbor's kitchen table nothing fancy, it’s like an old school dining experience.

Charming , low-key, spot to go grab some yummy food. It was a little tricky to find, but I'm so glad we did! My favorite was the banana macadamia nut pancake. The sauce was delicious! We also had the corn beef hash with eggs and rice meal as well as the eggs, potatoes, and Portuguese sausage meal! Service was very friendly. I wish we were in town longer to go again.

We were first time visitors. Our waitress was so kind, engaging, and helpful. She gave recommendations that were on point. We appreciated that the menu offered all day breakfast and lunch fares which were all yummy! Great service, fair prices, and good food. Easily one of our favorite meals and experiences on the island.

Bamboo Grille has been a Wailuku staple for years now. LOCATION: The old Nazo's restaurant. Or in detail, Lower Main Street, second level, west side of the Puuone Plaza. ATMOSPHERE: Simple and nothing exciting, like all other restaurants in sleepy Wailuku. FOOD: Double Loco Moco Rice, two homemade hamburger patties topped with two eggs (cooking style of your choice,) and dark brown gravy. The patties were moist and cooked medium. I got the eggs over easy and were cooked perfect. The dark brown gravy was savory as opposed to my kryptonite sweet. Roast Pork The majority of the sliced pork were tender and lean, with just a few tough and fatty pieces. I asked for "extra gravy" which didn't seem like they added much more, which was fine as the gravy wasn't the greatest in terms of flavor; very mild with no depth. The rice was cooked nicely, and yay, macaroni salad finally accompanied the dish! Nothing spectacular, but nothing bad either. Chicken Cutlet Yowza, delicious! Unlike the other reviews, mine weren't burnt. They were actually perfectly cooked and crispy, with insanely moist and juicy chicken. I asked for extra gravy which was poured onto the two scoops of rice in addition to the chicken, a dark brown concoction that was thick and tasty. I could've used more of the macaroni salad though some may say there's too much mayo mixed in. It's a generous portion size for the average human. Hands down the best cutlet I've had yet! Dry Mein - My mom's dish. She exclaimed "This is so junk, the noodles are hard!" Looking at it from across the table they looked normal. After tasting a strand, it was simply al dente, though with a slight doughy flavor due to its undercooked temperature. Personally, I liked it. She did not. Most places don't undercook their dry mein noodles like this, or maybe it was an off-batch. She soldiered on, finishing what she could along with the dipping broth and testified "I'm never ordering this again!" Okay then! LOL. Tuna Sandwich My spouse's choice. Hmm, I could've made this at home for way less. Just kidding! Whatever floats your boat. The wheat bread was nicely toasted with a good amount of tuna fill & veggies with thick-cut, crispy shoestring fries to the side. Their mayo comes premixed with mustard, a Maui staple. Saimin I believe I've found my new favorite saimin on Maui! Available in two sizes, I went large, and a generous portion it was. The bowl came searing hot and steamy to the table. The broth was perfectly savory, the noodles thicker and chewy (Iwamoto-brand noodles, I believe) and topped with green onions and thick slices of tender pork. Highly recommended! SERVICE: Consistently good. OVERALL: Your best option for "local food" in Wailuku.

Mom and pops local shop. Very good food and big portions. Was recommended by a local to come get the Banana Mac Nut Pancakes. It was out of this world good and worth every bite. The Sumo Moco was very tasty. Make sure to get it with fried rice. Prices are very good, not like the ripoff hotel foods. Definitely would come back again.
