Banzai Sushi Bar
About
A North Shore Surf-Town Essential
Tucked away in the historic plantation town of Waialua, Banzai Sushi Bar serves as the go-to spot for locals craving high-quality fish after a day in the waves. The atmosphere leans into a laid-back, rugged surf aesthetic—expect a boisterous, high-energy room where the clinking of sake glasses competes with the local chatter. It is the perfect place to shed the sand from your feet and transition into an evening of casual, well-executed Japanese fare.
Signature Rolls and Island Freshness
The menu prioritizes the abundance of the Pacific. You will find staples like the spicy tuna rolls that carry just the right amount of heat, but the kitchen truly excels with their signature creative maki. The chefs emphasize texture, pairing crisp vegetables with buttery, melt-in-your-mouth cuts of ahi. Beyond the sushi, the menu offers a diverse range of izakaya-style appetizers that pair well with their curated selection of cold beer and chilled sake.
The Waialua Local Experience
While the quality is top-tier, the setting remains refreshingly unpretentious. The acoustics can get a bit loud when the North Shore crowd pours in, which is part of the charm—you are here for the energy and the ocean-to-table freshness, not for a quiet, white-tablecloth affair. Parking can be a bit of a dance during peak dinner hours, but the communal buzz and the consistent craft behind the sushi bar make it a cornerstone of the Waialua dining scene. Whether you are a resident or a visitor passing through, it is a straightforward, reliable choice for those who value authentic flavor over fancy frills.

Yummy sushi spot on the North Shore! Banzai Sushi Bar has such a really relaxed vibe. You can sit inside or out front at low floor-style tables for a more intimate feel. I got the chirashi bowl and it was so worth it for the price! It was super fresh seafood, generous portions, and plenty of rice. 🍚🍣 My friend loved their mango roll too. The staff are really attentive and accommodating with food allergies, which I appreciated. Overall, delicious sushi, a cozy vibe, and great service - definitely recommend!

Sushi was fresh and portion size was decent. A bit overpriced, but probably due to location. Service was fast and friendly. Seating area has an option of traditional seating and regular tables. We experienced some yelling children, which affected the ambiance.

We came here for dinner and it was good. It’s pretty pricey for relatively small portions, but the staff is nice and loves kids. They went out of their way to entertain the little ones and would even give a free desert. The food was good, just in my opinion a bit pricey.

We had a “nice dinner out” and we chose this sushi bar. It was fun to sit on the ground and have a more traditional experience (don’t worry you can have regular seating as well). Parking was abundant but the area was quite busy so we had to park a little far (3-4 min walk max). It is certainly a little pricey, but I think the food/atmosphere mostly was worth it. The vegetable tempura was solid. The rolls were good. The nicest part was walking around the area, there are lots of restaurants, ice cream etc all within this area within walking distance.

Really cool sushi place with an upscale but casual atmosphere. I got the white dragon roll and she got the California tempura roll. Both were excellent! The cocktails were also really delicious. All around a great place.

One of the best Sushi Bars I'd ever been to. Food was spectacular, atmosphere was awesome, three different areas of seating, something for everyone. Great music, great drinks, FRESH MAJOR TASTEFUL FOOD. Prices were wonderful as well.

The sushi, especially the specialty rolls were delicious. The fish is fresh and the combinations with the souce pairing were amazing. We also liked the vibe and the music. The place is a bit pricey (even compared to NYC) but if you can afford it I think it's definitely worth a visit.

I definitely left this place still hungry having spent a decent chunk of change which is why I give it 3 stars. Very small portion sizes. The poke bowl was delicious though. We also got a fried ahi tuna roll which was good too. The mushroom appetizer was very underwhelming. Our kids shared the fish and chips which I liked. The sweet potato fries came with a wasabi salt which I LOVED!
