Overview & Vibe
Giovanni's Shrimp Truck is more than just a place to grab lunch; it is a North Shore institution. Since 1993, this iconic white truck—covered in a dense layer of colorful signatures and messages from travelers across the globe—has defined the ultimate Oahu road trip experience. Located in Haleiwa, the vibe is quintessential Hawaii: open-air, casual, and focused entirely on the food. You won't find white tablecloths here; instead, you get plastic picnic tables, the smell of garlicky butter in the air, and the relaxed, sun-drenched atmosphere of the North Shore. It is the perfect stop to refuel after a morning of watching waves at Waimea Bay or exploring the town of Haleiwa.
Menu Highlights & Must-Try Dishes
- Scampi Shrimp: The crown jewel of the menu. Featuring a generous serving of succulent, shell-on shrimp sautéed in a rich, buttery, and heavily garlic-infused sauce. It is served with two scoops of rice, which act as the perfect canvas to soak up that liquid gold.
- Hot & Spicy Shrimp: For those who love a serious kick. This dish uses a fiery red chili base that builds heat with every bite. It is intense, so keep a cold drink nearby.
- Lemon Butter Shrimp: A lighter, zestier alternative that balances the richness of the butter with a bright, citrus finish. It's a favorite for those who want that classic Giovanni's flavor profile without the heavy heat or intense garlic profile.
Insider Dining & Tips
Giovanni's is a wildly popular spot, meaning queues can grow significantly during peak lunch hours (12:00 PM – 2:00 PM). Pro tip: Aim to arrive right when they open or mid-afternoon around 3:00 PM to avoid the longest waits. Keep in mind that this is a cash-friendly establishment; while cards are accepted, there may be processing fees, so bringing cash is the smartest way to pay. Also, come prepared to get a little messy—peeling the shrimp is part of the experience, and napkins are your best friend.
Location & Parking
The original truck is located at 66-472 Kamehameha Hwy in Haleiwa. There is a gravel lot dedicated to the food trucks on-site. Parking is generally ample, but it can get congested on weekends. If the main lot is full, consider parking in the surrounding Haleiwa town areas and enjoying a short walk to the truck. It is conveniently situated near world-famous surf breaks, making it the perfect post-beach destination.

Very tasty but rice is a bit dry.
Shrimp was lovely as was the sauce. Although slightly difficult to eat. It is shrimp from a food truck so that’s to be expected.
Rice was quite dry and could be seen pre-plated in the back and not made to order.
Overall was still very tasty.

Good food, but Not Worth Special Trip
We were disappointed in the garlic shrimp. It was good, but for us nothing special.

Delicious volume as rumored
I like the spicy taste, so I ordered the dry one. Everyone nearby was choosing the normal type. It was delicious, but a little too spicy. Next time, I will choose the normal one. My husband said it was usually delicious. I paid by card, but cash seemed to be better without any fees.
