Taqueria El Ranchero (823 California Ave. Suite A5)

Welp. Still on the hunt to find a Mexican spot on the island. Sadly, this isn't it. Carne asada is ok, the salsa is ok. The habenaro one tastes like it's El Gallo that they bought. It's a good chile to buy and have at home. Expected better at a restaurant though. The al pastor and chorizo is terrible. I'm sorry. I tried both and both didn't get eaten. Tastes like nothing but cinnamon. Not a fan. Rice is bland, can't taste tomato and onion at all. Like colored rice. Service was OK. Place was busy, I suppose so no complaints. Mostly people getting drinks. The foods just not worth the price. At all. Atmosphere is lit though.

Good Mexican food abit greasy and pricey. Great Fresca drinks.

A couple weeks ago 3 of my friends and I stopped in for a bite and a beverage after a Sunday hike. It was probably around 2 or 3 in the afternoon when we arrived. It wasnt busy, but it wasn't completely empty either. There were a few people at the bar and one other table eating food when we sat down. Our server was probably having a very bad day or someone may have just shot his puppy because he was in some sort of mood. We arrived happy and hungry and left satisfied in the stomach, with something to be desired in the felt appreciated department. I want to give the benefit of the doubt about being busy or us being difficult, but I swear we couldnt have been more easy... whatever. The food was fine. It came out lightning fast. Our server didnt ever once try to smile, Crack a joke, be friendly, or do anything beyond the absolute bare minimum of "service." We tipped 20%. I dont know if he's management or just a disgruntled worker, but I won't be returning nor giving recommendations for this establishment. Bummer, because the potential is there, but the atmosphere only served hostility.

It was a little pricey, but taking into account that it's in Hawaii it was definitely it's understandable. The tacos where really good. Definitely good spot to hang out at the bar and eat food and relax.

11/30/2025 (ESPAÑOL abajo) I'm definitely disappointed because not only did I not get what I ordered but they also forgot to include the tortillas to my order lol I placed the order over the phone and asked what the chile rellenos came with and the guy answered: Meat and Cheese. I was happy to hear that because if not I wouldn't had mind paying extra for the meat (especially since I'm pregnant). To my surprise when we got home they didn't only forget to include the tortillas, but they also didn't include the meat. I called back but they didn't seem to care haha At least the girl that answered said sorry

This eatery has two sides: a fast food dine-in/takeout area and a full-service Sports Bar. We chose to dine in at the Sports Bar side. Our waitress was fantastic—super kind and accommodating. She made sure we were comfortable with the seating, especially since we didn’t want to be near the bar or in a warmer spot. The food was excellent! The Mucho Madness drink was a standout, and we especially loved the garlic fries and supreme quesadillas. The atmosphere was fun and laid-back. Definitely a spot we’d return to.
