About
Cool Down with Authentic North Shore Treats
Stepping into Hukilau Marketplace on the windward coast of Oahu, the first thing you notice is the refreshing, sugary scent of tropical syrups wafting through the humid air. Sweet As serves up arguably the most essential treat for any traveler exploring the Laie shoreline: traditional Hawaiian shave ice. Unlike typical mainland snow cones, the texture here is consistently powdery and fine, acting as a perfect sponge for house-made syrups derived from local island fruits.
A Local Staple Near the Polynesian Cultural Center
Positioned conveniently for those spending the day touring nearby exhibits or heading to the famous beaches of the North Shore, this stand is a favorite for families looking for a quick, cooling break. The menu leans into island authenticity, featuring lilikoi (passion fruit), guava, and mango flavors that strike a balance between tart and sweet. The addition of a snowy cap of sweetened condensed milk, often called a "snow cap," is a local requirement to add that creamy, decadent mouthfeel that distinguishes top-tier shave ice from the average roadside stand.
The North Shore Atmosphere
The setup is classic outdoor counter service, designed for casual grazing while you walk through the marketplace. While the lines can occasionally snake around the corner during the mid-afternoon rush when the sun is at its peak, the service remains impressively efficient. You will likely find yourself eating quickly to prevent the tropical heat from melting your treat, though the wooden benches nearby provide a shaded spot to watch the foot traffic. It is the kind of simple, unpretentious experience that makes a day in Laie feel complete, especially after a long morning of hiking or surfing the nearby breaks.

Great place to walk around, shop for island souvenirs and get something good to eat. We had the privilege to bring our boys from Christian Brothers Academy of Albany New York to perform. It was amazing, all the boys enjoyed the shops, tattos, tours and shows

We went here 5 times on our last trip. Kept on coming back for the Dole Whip and Soda shop. So many things to try and we loved how safe and clean it felt. Some places were very expensive like the crepes. $50 for 3 crepes! Everything else was well worth it! Be sure to get a cookie from Pounders so amazing! And go to the night show from PCC

A large outdoor area filled with plenty of shops, stalls and various food trucks. There are so many different souvenirs available it's hard to take them all in. When it's busy it's difficult to find individual seating to eat your meal, we end up sharing our table with others as there was nothing else available for them. So keep that in mind if you go during peak times. The food options are fantastic and everything we had was so fresh!
