Laie Chop Suey
About
A Taste of Island Tradition
Tucked away on the windward coast, Laie Chop Suey stands as a community pillar for those craving classic Hawaiian-Chinese comfort food. The air inside is consistently thick with the savory scent of wok-seared garlic and ginger, signaling that your meal is being prepared to order. It is the kind of place where locals grab a quick bite after a day at the beach or a long shift, offering a no-frills, utilitarian approach to dining that prioritizes flavor over vanity.
Menu Highlights and Flavors
The kitchen is best known for its generous portions of signature chop suey and crispy gau gee. The textures here are distinct—you will hear the sharp crunch of the deep-fried wontons against the soft, tender vegetables stir-fried in a rich, savory gravy. Whether you are ordering a plate lunch to go or sitting at one of the vinyl-covered booths, the experience is anchored in authenticity. The menu remains faithful to the style of Cantonese-influenced Hawaiian cooking that has defined island diners for decades.
Practical Local Dining
If you are planning to visit, keep in mind that the parking lot can get tight during peak lunch hours when the student crowd and local families descend at once. The acoustics are lively, often filled with the clatter of woks and the hum of conversation, making it a social hub for the Laie area. It is an ideal spot for anyone seeking an unpretentious meal that fuels the soul without breaking the budget. You won't find white tablecloths here, but you will find a consistent, reliable slice of North Shore culinary culture.

I ordered the roast duck for $20 and received about 4 okay sized pieces and the rest were all bones....and it was not tasty at all. Super disappointing!! For awesome roast duck go to Po Sing in Mililani!

In the mood for Chinese food so we stopped by. I got the curry chicken with rice and my wife got the stir fry vegetables. Both were very good. Not amazing but good, typical Chinese food. Curry chicken had a bunch of veggies as well, which I like. The server kept coming back and filling up our water. Excellent.

This place should be taken down. I’m extremely disappointed in their food. I expected their food would be really good. It was my first time eating their food. I heard that this place has existed here for 10 years. I cannot believe how they survived for this long time with the poorest service. Their chow mein is the worst and their beef broccoli 🤢 I feel very insulted. I had to return their chow mein because it wasn’t fully cooked and then they had added some sort of sauce or something on it when i get a new one. Also the veggies are not fresh and good. Plus, their fried rice with pork and egg… THEY CANNOT COOK. Their food is not worth the price they ask. I’d recommend you not going there. It’s not worth it at all!!!
