Hapas Sushi & Poke
About
A Fresh Coastal Find on the North Shore
Tucked away near the bustling center of Laie, Hapas Sushi & Poke offers a straightforward, no-frills approach to island dining. The space captures that classic North Shore casual energy—expect to see surfboards leaning against walls and a steady stream of locals coming in for a quick, reliable lunch after a morning session at the beach.
The Poke Philosophy
This spot prioritizes the quality of the catch. The ahi tuna poke is the clear star here, served with that signature firm, buttery texture you only find when it’s sourced daily from nearby waters. Beyond the traditional cubes of seasoned raw fish, the menu extends to creative sushi rolls that lean into bold flavors rather than heavy sauces. The spicy tuna bowls are built with a satisfying crunch, balancing fresh scallions and toasted sesame seeds against a sharp, house-made heat that wakes up your palate.
Why It Fits the Laie Scene
If you are exploring the coast between the Polynesian Cultural Center and the famous surf breaks, Hapas provides a functional, flavorful pit stop. It isn't a place for white-tablecloth service; it’s a place for grab-and-go boxes that hold up perfectly if you decide to drive down the road for a sunset picnic. Be prepared for a modest seating arrangement, which can fill up fast during the lunch rush, so timing your visit just before or after the peak hours is a local pro-tip. The air is filled with the faint scent of vinegared sushi rice and sea salt, keeping the experience grounded in the coastal environment of Hawaii.

Great staff but food was pricey and small portions. The menu was limited and the only sushi available was grab and go without the option to order a fresh roll. Disappointing experience

Super cute little food hut in the Polynesian Cultural Center Marketplace area. We're staying at a condo very nearby, so this was a very convenient, walkable option for supper. Food was fresh, filling, and priced nicely. There was covered/shaded seating nearby with other food truck type options available also (if someone in your group doesn't like poke or sushi/sashimi). We took ours to go, but are keeping this on our Saved list for future trips!

The Tuna was so fresh it melted as I took each bite. The giant tiki and American flag made this outdoor dining venue truly special. The friendly smile & quick service allowed me to get back to my Oahu adventure full & Happy! The Cali Poke bowl hit the spot.
