About
Overview & Vibe
The Musubi Truck Koloa has become a quintessential stop for travelers navigating the south shore of Kauai. Founded in 2020 by local Kaua'i residents, this vibrant food truck elevates the humble SPAM musubi—a local comfort food staple—into a creative culinary experience. The vibe is casual, open-air, and quintessentially laid-back island style. While it is a food truck rather than a formal dining room, the atmosphere captures the spirit of 'grab-and-go' island life, perfect for beach-goers or those exploring the nearby Poipu area.
Menu Highlights & Must-Try Dishes
The menu reimagines classic island flavors wrapped in nori and rice. Visitors consistently rave about the following signature items:
- Classic SPAM Musubi: The gold standard here. It follows Mrs. Funamura’s time-honored recipe but with an elevated, modern touch. It is warm, savory, and satisfying.
- Fried SPAM Musubi: For those who love a bit of texture, the fried version adds a delightful crunch to the exterior, making it a fan favorite among regular patrons.
- Crispy Tater Tots: A surprising highlight, these tots are perfectly golden and seasoned, providing the perfect salty side to complement the denser musubi bites.
- Katsu Musubi: A hearty twist on the original, featuring breaded chicken breast stuffed into the rice bundle. It is a substantial meal-in-one that keeps island explorers fueled for the day.
Insider Dining & Tips
Because The Musubi Truck is a popular local attraction, timing is everything. To avoid long lines or the disappointment of items being sold out, try to arrive during mid-morning or mid-afternoon. If you are specifically craving their signature SPAM musubi, aim for an earlier visit, as high demand can occasionally lead to them selling out before the end of the day. There is no reservation system, so prepare for a quick wait during peak lunch hours. Embracing the outdoor seating is part of the charm, so bring a beach towel or mat if you prefer not to use the nearby picnic tables.
Location & Parking
Located at 3450 Poipu Rd, the truck is conveniently situated for anyone heading toward Poipu Beach or the Koloa Heritage Trail. Parking is generally accessible, though the lot can get busy; please be patient as turnover is typically quite fast. The truck is well-marked, and its central location makes it an ideal pitstop between activities. Keep an eye out for local wildlife while dining, as the Kauai chickens and birds are notoriously opportunistic around food spots—always a reminder that you are dining in the heart of the garden isle!

There's always room for musubi...
We visited and fell in love with the Musubi truck during a vacation almost two years ago, so when we planned another trip to the area, we knew we had to stop. On our first visit of this vacation, they were out of SPAM musubi (what?!) but that forced us to try some of the other varieties and they were amazing... but we had to go back for SPAM so we made it a priority to go back before vacation was over and we were glad we did. The SPAM musubi was everything we'd been dreaming of and more. It's a quick and easy meal or snack, and definitely worth the stop!

False advertising, bad food.
This place is absolutely terrible. It’s just a tourist ripoff with no aloha vibe. Coming from Oahu, I can tell you that this is not it and not what you want. Stay away.

The menu is false advertising. I ordered chicken katsu as stated. I got a giant musubi with mushy katsu stuffed into it. Gross. Not what I ordered. Why wouldn’t you have a section for musubi then a giant space and then list katsu but not indicate it’s a musubi then rudely tell me over email it does. The picture shows that it doesn’t.

Staff is not friendly or welcoming. There’s a few dirty tables to eat at but hard to get a seat and half the people there aren’t eating. Had to sit on the grass to eat snd fend off a chicken, cat and bird who also wanted my food.

The musubi isn’t even very good. It’s warm flavorless mush. Go to foodland. You’ll get much better at 1/8 the price.

Stay away!!!!!!!

Awesome Musubi!
If you love musubi, you don’t want to miss this place! Plenty of parking though tucked away. The fried spam musubi is terrific! Great tater tots too. Stopped here several times on this trip…love the place!
