Overview & Vibe
When traversing the winding roads of West Kauai, there is one culinary landmark that stands out for seafood lovers: Shrimp Station in Waimea. While it may not boast the polish of a luxury resort restaurant, this casual, roadside establishment has earned a reputation for serving some of the island's most succulent, locally sourced shrimp. The vibe is unapologetically laid-back and authentic—a true 'shack' experience where the focus remains entirely on the quality of the catch. With ample outdoor seating available, it serves as the ultimate pit stop for travelers heading toward or returning from the majestic Waimea Canyon.
Menu Highlights & Must-Try Dishes
The menu at Shrimp Station is refreshingly focused, ensuring that each batch of shrimp is prepared with precision. Guests frequently highlight these signature items:
- Classic Garlic Shrimp: The crown jewel of the menu. These large, plump shrimp are sautéed in a fragrant, buttery garlic sauce that pairs perfectly with a scoop of steaming white rice.
- Spicy Hot Shrimp: For those who enjoy a bit of local heat, this dish provides a zesty kick that balances the natural sweetness of the fresh Kauai shrimp.
- Coconut Shrimp: Crispy, golden-brown, and served with a tangy dipping sauce, this is a crowd favorite that captures the essence of tropical comfort food.
- Signature Cocktail Shrimp: Simple, chilled, and incredibly fresh, this appetizer showcases the quality of the product without unnecessary embellishments.
Insider Dining & Tips
Shrimp Station operates on a quick-service, walk-up window model, making it ideal for those who value efficiency. Because this is a popular stop for canyon-bound tourists, lines can form during peak lunch hours (12:00 PM – 2:00 PM). If you are looking to avoid the rush, aim for an early lunch or a late afternoon snack. While the establishment offers on-site seating, many seasoned locals and return visitors choose to order their meals 'to-go' and drive a few minutes down the road to enjoy their feast at one of the nearby beach parks, ensuring a picturesque and pristine dining environment.
Location & Parking
You can find Shrimp Station conveniently located at 9652 Kaumualii Hwy, Waimea, Kauai, HI. It sits directly on the primary route to Waimea Canyon and Koke'e State Park, making it an impossible-to-miss landmark. Parking is available directly on-site in the gravel lot. While the facility is humble and rustic, the convenience and the quality of the shrimp make it an essential stop for anyone exploring the West Side of the Garden Isle.

Good Food- lousy ambience
Food: The shrimp is VERY good. It’s a limited menu with only their version of cocktail sauce, but they do fix great shrimp. Ambience: The truth is, the place is not well kept up. Everything is dirty. The tables are beat up and dirty. There is junk and piles of stuff that should be hauled away. The whole place needs to be power washed. The girl who waits at the window is unfriendly and really doesn’t give a care. Summary: if you don’t mind a really dirty environment, eat there. Otherwise, take your food to the beach, your cabin or even your car.

My daughter said it was the best shrimp of the trip!
This was a new stop for us and we weren't disappointed. The food was outstanding and the prices were pretty good. Great stop on the way to Waimea Canyon.
