It is the ideal pit stop for hungry adventurers fueling up before a trek through the Waimea Canyon or those looking for a relaxing, no-fuss meal that delivers on quality and value.
Menu Highlights & Must-Try Dishes
While the menu features solid American comfort food, there are standout items that make Gina's a local favorite:
- Signature Banana Walnut Bread: Often served fresh from the oven, this is the item you must order. It is moist, fragrant, and arguably the best banana bread on the island. Pro tip: Arrive early, as this local specialty tends to sell out quickly.
- Classic French Toast: A breakfast staple elevated by the kitchen's attention to detail. It is perfectly golden, soft on the inside, and paired beautifully with locally sourced tropical fruit or classic syrup.
- The Waimea Burger: A hearty, no-nonsense burger that satisfies the post-hike hunger. Praised for its generous portion and savory flavor profile, it represents the honest, filling fare that defines this café.
Insider Dining & Tips
Gina's at Yumi's is a popular spot, particularly during the breakfast rush. Since it is a small establishment, it is best to aim for a mid-morning arrival to avoid the heaviest crowds. Because of its popularity with hikers heading up to the canyon, the morning hours are when the kitchen is at its peak. Walk-ins are generally accommodated, but patience is appreciated during peak tourist season. If you are on a strict schedule, plan to grab a coffee and a slice of their famous banana bread to go.

Cute and Clean Local Cafe
We discovered Gina's from Trip Advisor and found it to be pretty great. It's a small locally owned cafe with super friendly staff and great looking menu. We were there for lunch, found parking directly in front and found it to be a cute and very clean little place with lots of windows to watch passersby while eating. The lunch menu was somewhat limited and we chose a chicken sandwich and burger (they really hype their burgers). Both were good, not great, but I wouldn't let that stop me from coming back. The breakfast menu looked terrific, and if I had the opportunity I'd definitely try it. Overall, a nice place to stop in Waimea.

The Banana Bread!!
Delicious food. Service was great. Prices were reasonable. Don’t forget to get the banana bread when it’s available! Didn’t know about the restaurant until I flew to Kauai and my seat mate was her son who was flying home for a family wedding and he said to go eat there!

Try the banana walnut bread!
We stopped here for breakfast before a long hike. The French toast was delicious and highly recommend the banana walnut bread. The bread was fresh out of the oven and incredible.
