Overview & Vibe

Located on the pristine grounds of the Sheraton Kauai Resort in Koloa, Aulii Luau offers an authentic, oceanside cultural experience that captures the heart of the Garden Isle. Unlike traditional indoor venues, Aulii Luau distinguishes itself by its breathtaking beachfront setting. As the sun sets over the Pacific, guests are treated to a seamless blend of Hawaiian history, traditional storytelling, and world-class hula, all performed under the starlit Kauai sky.

The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and deeply rooted in the concept of Aloha. Whether you are enjoying a signature cocktail or watching the mesmerizing fire dancers, the vibe is consistently elevated yet relaxed, making it a favorite for both families and couples seeking a quintessential Hawaiian evening.

Menu Highlights & Must-Try Dishes

The culinary journey at Aulii Luau is designed to showcase the best of island flavors through a high-quality buffet service. Guests consistently praise the variety and freshness of the spread:

 • Traditional Kalua Pig: A luau staple, this slow-roasted pork is tender, smoky, and perfectly seasoned, representing the heart of Hawaiian cuisine.
 • Fresh Catch of the Day: Prepared with local seasonings, the fish is consistently highlighted for its lightness and commitment to island-sourced ingredients.
 • Signature Mai Tais: Guests rave about the unlimited, self-serve bar which features expertly crafted Mai Tais and Blue Hawaiians that hit the spot while enjoying the ocean breeze.
 • Island-Style Tropical Fruit & Salads: A refreshing, vibrant selection of vegetarian and vegan-friendly sides that provide the perfect balance to the heavier, savory main dishes.

Insider Dining & Tips

To ensure you have the best experience possible, keep these tips in mind:

 • Book in Advance: Due to its popularity and prime location, spots fill up weeks in advance. Secure your reservation as soon as you confirm your Kauai travel dates.
 • Seating Strategy: There are two tiers—Premier and Standard. Premier guests receive fresh flower leis and front-row seating. If you choose Standard seating and want the best view of the stage, arrive at the check-in line 30 to 60 minutes early.
 • Dress Code: While "island casual" is standard, keep in mind that the event is held on the grass near the ocean. A light sweater or wrap is recommended, especially in the winter months or if an unexpected tropical shower cools the evening air.

Location & Parking

Aulii Luau is located at 2440 Hoonani Rd, Koloa, HI 96756, situated perfectly along the Poipu coastline. Parking is available at the Sheraton Kauai Resort. We recommend arriving early to navigate the parking lot and enjoy the pre-show cultural demonstrations, such as coconut peeling and traditional taro preparation, which are available before dinner commences.

By ocean and worth it

Wife and I had a blast. Line moved quickly. Plenty to drink both blue hawaii and mai tai. There was plenty of soda and tropical punch that's really good. Appetizers and the food are buffett style. food was great and plenty of it to go around. Side displays of coconut peeling, crown making taro etc. Dancing and story telling was awesome. A lot of fun

Aloha for the Soul

Aulii Luau, located on the grounds of the Sheraton Hotel in Koloa, was hands down THE BEST Luau I have ever experienced.

We were lovingly lead through the history and culture of the Hawaiian people by the story teller who virtually wrapped us in a blanket of Aloha. As she introduced each chapter, a trio of musicians played Hawaiian music as performers danced, chanted, and sang, demonstrating the ways of the Hawaiian people through the years.

The musicians were excellent and their harmonies hypnotic. The costumes of the performers were bright, and well fitted, a delight to see. There must have been a dozen costume/make up changes, I lost count.

The luau is set up on the grass, behind the Sheraton, right next to the ocean. There are 2 types of seating. Premier costs more and you get a flower lei and seating at a table in the first 2 rows. At standard seating, you are greeted with a shell lei and are seated at one of the tables in row 3 and behind. If you're concerned about being close to the stage, line up 30 minutes to an hour in advance of check in. Pu Pu platters were already sitting on each table when we arrived. After you find your seat you are welcome to visit the different displays, demonstrations, & vendors. There's also a professional photographer.

The buffet food was excellent! A selection of vegan, vegetarian, and carnivorous foods that were so tasty (unlike other Luaus I have been to!). The line was quick. Each table was invited to sample the buffet one at a time, very orderly! Unlimited Mai Tais & Blue Hawaiians were the alcoholic drink of the night, and of course sodas, coffee, teas, waters were also available. Drinks were on a help-yourself basis. The alcoholic drinks were made, and set out by the bartender - no lines!

Outstanding experience! A MUST DO! I'll be back.

5 Year old Granddaughter could not stop dancing

Held outdoors by the oceanside but unfortunately weather was a bit cool and windy that night having had some unexpected rain come through the island just before the luau was to begin. But they delayed the luau and the weather passed over and we all got to go in about 30-45 minutes later. I would say the food is not to die for (given the price of the luau) but they did their best to feed lots of folks some authentic food (which had to be kept warm longer than was expected due to the delay). The entertainment was great! My granddaughter danced along with the hula dancers and had that amazed look at the fire dancers. The emcee was informative and friendly and the musicians were good.
