Fresh Sashimi and Warm Hospitality in the Heart of Kapolei
Walking into Sakura Japanese Restaurant in Kapolei feels like stepping into a dedicated corner of culinary craft. This West Oahu staple has built a local following by prioritizing the basics of Japanese dining: pristine fish and consistent preparation. The space maintains a functional, no-nonsense interior that puts the focus squarely on the expansive sushi menu rather than flashy decor.
A Menu Built for Locals
The kitchen is known for generous portions of nigiri and specialty rolls that cater to the hungry Kapolei lunch and dinner crowds. Regulars often start with the house miso soup, noted for its depth of flavor, before moving on to signature platters that showcase the chef's knife skills. If you arrive during peak hours, prepare for a brisk, high-energy environment where the staff moves with impressive speed to keep up with the demand from nearby residents and workers.
What to Expect When You Visit
The atmosphere is informal and welcoming, making it a reliable spot for a casual midweek dinner or a quick weekend meal. Because it is a popular gathering point for families living in the surrounding residential neighborhoods, the dining room can get quite lively. Pro tip: while the area offers plenty of parking, the lot can become tight during the busy Friday night rush, so factor in an extra few minutes to secure your spot. It is the kind of neighborhood eatery where the consistency keeps people coming back, providing an authentic slice of Japanese cuisine right in the middle of our bustling city.

Had a group of 13 tonight plus 2 kids. The staff was great. She went down the line and everyone ordered what they wanted. The food came out pretty darn quick for as many things as we ordered. Our waitress was fast and fixed anything very quickly that needed to be fixed. The food was great! A little pricey but we had a wonderful experience.

All you can eat sushi in Kapolei! Mon-Thurs, I just wish there were more cooked options like BBQ Salmon and handrolls, but it was pretty good. Our server was attentive. Just know the lunch regular menu is limited; I would suggest going for dinner.

Terrible AYCE experience. Service is painfully slow (especially between rounds). The nigiri is just a giant ball of rice with a sliver of meat, and the rolls are incredibly bland. The miso soup tasted like grainy, instant powder. If the best part of your meal is the wasabi clearing your sinuses, you know you're in trouble. Easily the worst sushi I’ve found on the island. Don't waste your time.
