Okome Bento & Sushi
About
A Taste of Japan in the Heart of Kapolei
Stepping into Okome Bento & Sushi offers a reprieve from the midday bustle of West Oahu. The atmosphere is refreshingly unpretentious, prioritizing efficiency and authentic flavors over elaborate decor. It serves as an ideal stop for residents and commuters looking for a reliable, high-quality Japanese meal without the formality of a sit-down bistro.
The Art of the Bento
The kitchen excels at the fundamentals, crafting bento boxes that are balanced, hearty, and visually meticulous. The rice is consistently fluffy, serving as the perfect canvas for their signature grilled meats and tempura. You will notice the distinct aroma of toasted nori and freshly vinegared sushi rice the moment you reach the counter. Their sushi rolls lean toward classic preparations, appealing to those who appreciate consistency and fresh ingredients over overly complex, sauce-heavy creations.
Local Nuance
While the food is the primary draw, be prepared for a modest footprint. During the busy lunch hour, the space can feel quite energetic, and finding a quick spot to sit requires a bit of timing. It is a true local staple where the focus remains strictly on providing a solid, affordable meal that respects traditional Japanese techniques. Whether you are grabbing a quick tray before heading toward the coast or picking up dinner for the family, Okome consistently delivers a straightforward, satisfying experience that highlights the culinary landscape of the Kapolei area.

If you are a fan of Pho or Ramen, you will likely appreciate the Udon at Okome. The tempura selection is outstanding, featuring a high-quality, colorful assortment of shrimp, potatoes, green beans, and other vegetables (see my attached video). My only critique: they need to offer hot tea. It is surprising for a Japanese restaurant not to serve it. While Jasmine is my personal preference, offering at least a classic green tea is a basic requirement.

Wife and I came over to the west side to enjoy some of the treats over here, found Okome To hit the spot. If you’re looking for medium fair for lunch, that is good and plenty for, this is the place.

Food here is okay. My wife and kids always enjoy eating here a lot. Honestly, in my opinion, it's just meh. However, there is a lot to choose from and the workers here are very friendly.
