Genki Sushi USA
About
A Modern Spin on Tradition in Kapolei
Located in the heart of Kapolei’s bustling commercial district, Genki Sushi brings a high-tech edge to the traditional kaiten-zushi concept. As soon as you step inside, the immediate hum of the automated delivery system sets the tone for a fast-paced, interactive meal. Instead of waiting for a server, your nigiri and rolls zip directly to your booth on specialized trays, creating a sense of anticipation that keeps the energy in the room high.
Tech-Forward Dining for Families
The space is designed for efficiency, making it a go-to spot for West Oahu families looking for a quick lunch or a casual dinner without the formality of a sit-down sushi bar. The menu is expansive, featuring staples like spicy tuna rolls, seared salmon, and the crowd-favorite fried chicken, which arrives piping hot. Watching the signature 'bullet train' deliver plates to neighboring tables adds a playful element that children particularly enjoy.
The Sensory Experience
Expect a clean, bright aesthetic where the primary sounds are the soft mechanical whir of the track and the rhythmic chatter of the dining room. While the seating is optimized for high turnover, the booths provide enough privacy to enjoy a variety of plates. One small observation: the popularity of this location means the queue can grow quickly during peak weekend hours, so arriving early is the best way to secure a spot without a wait. The focus here remains on accessibility and variety, offering a reliable taste of Japanese-inspired fare that fits perfectly into a busy day of errands or shopping around Kapolei Commons.

Was 17th in line, didn’t text me when the table was ready, had to get back in line, was then 6th. The train forgot to bring food so the server did which defeats the purpose. Tasty but underwhelming. It can only go up from here, we’re going to try them all on Oahu

We ordered udon for pickup and received a bowl with less than 10 noodles, with it barely filling up less than half the bowl. The edamame we ordered was cold straight from the fridge. Portions were tiny but food is delicious.

Currently writing this as I am waiting for my food because yes it took longer to get my food and tab than writing this review. My friend and I frequent Genki Sushi often, especially the Waikele location. Arrived here and scanned the QR code to join the waitlist at 6pm. We were seated by 6:02, wow fast! We both placed our order at around 6:05pm. First 2 items of my friend’s order (Spam Nigiri, Deep Fried California) came at 6:10pm. First round of my order (Deep Fried Spicy Roll) came at 6:35pm. Ended up ordering something else (Garlic Salmon Nigiri) at 6:30pm and it came 2 mins after my first order came. My friend ordered an agedashi tofu at 6:30pm and it still did not come…really that long for fried tofu? Our served talked to us once to seat us and then to get our drink orders. She placed the 2 waters in front of my friend for her to pass to me even though we were seated at the counter. Then we were not checked in with ever again despite my friend and I continuously looking at the “train” to see if our orders were going to be loaded. By 7pm, we got up from our seat to pay our check at the front (because no one came to help us). We let the hostess who helped us checkout know that we were waiting 30 mins for our tofu but did not receive it so we asked to cancel that from the check…and no, she did not say sorry for that (as expected). I will not be returning to Genki Sushi Kapolei nor recommending this location to anyone. The only plus was that our food tasted as it usually does. However, do not come here. Skip this location and go to another one if you’re dying for Genki Sushi or if you’re craving sushi just go elsewhere to save your time and your money.

It’s been a long time since I last visited Genki Sushi — probably not since before COVID — and I have to say, I really miss the old setup. Back then, part of the fun was sitting down and watching all the different sushi plates pass by on the conveyor belt. You could just grab whatever caught your eye, and the color-coded plates made it easy (and kind of exciting) to keep track of how much you were spending. It had a casual, lively atmosphere that made it feel like more than just a quick meal — it was an experience. This time around, things felt pretty different. Instead of the conveyor belt, you now scan a QR code at your table to order everything through your phone. Once you place your order, a little “tram” — kind of a mini bullet train — zips your food out to your table. It’s definitely a cool concept, and I can see why people like it, but it also makes the experience feel more automated and less personal. There’s barely any interaction with the staff anymore, which makes it feel a little sterile compared to how it used to be. As for the food, it’s about what I remember — decent, affordable sushi that’s good for a quick bite but not necessarily something to rave about. The menu still has a wide variety, and prices are reasonable for what you get. Everything came out fresh and on time, and the service (what little there was) was friendly enough. Overall, Genki Sushi is still a fun, casual place for a simple sushi meal, especially if you’ve never been before and want to try the tram delivery system. But for those who remember the old days with the conveyor belt and color-coded plates, it’s just not quite the same. It’s worth a stop if you’re nearby and craving sushi, but I wouldn’t call it a must-do while visiting Hawaii.

This location Is big and spacious. Its very busy 20-30 minute wait. The menu has grown and so many items to choose from. The tablets make it so easy to order your favorites or try something new. It is delivered right to your table in a timely fashion. Many selections for food, drinks and dessert! The food here don't disappoint. Tasty and very delicious. ❤️🙌Our server this evening was the fabulous TIA, she provided us with our best experience ever. She was so thoughtful and kind. Her personality was the best. She took good care of us and check up on us. I even had to ask if she was the manager! Her introduction to us was what really set the tone for our evening. You can certainly tell she loves her job and is very good at it. Thank you Tia 😊 we had a good time! Still the best!

A bit lack luster, probably wouldn't go back and would likely make a different recommendation if someone asked to go here. The food isn't bad per say but it definitely isn't as good as I expected it to be, it's probably just been hyped up too much. I expected the conveyor belt to have sushi to choose from but it was just for getting food to the table, which is fine just not as expected. They have a decent selection but I would probably choose a more hole in the wall establishment instead. Service was okay, they didn't really come by to make sure our drinks were full or anything. Overall: kind of meh.

Hard pass. Place and food is gross. You will leave sad like their logo. Food is not good, oddly expensive, and small portions. Do not get any nigiri - you need a lot of sauce or fried battery to cover up the low quality ingredients. Nothing we got we would ever eat again. Got the seasonal special roll even though it didn't say what's in it. Did not taste good. Our table had sticky stuff on the table and menus. Our bowls had bleach-smelling liquid in them, making the ginger and wasabi inedible. Conveyor belt had all sorts of stuff on it - crumbs, fries, etc. Servers aren't happy and whisper, you can barely hear them over the loud upbeat Christmas music. Our guy filled our waters twice before our food came out but not after that. Watch your ordering for errors. My husband ordered on his phone and then I did the same. But when I submitted it, it gave me a pop up notification with no words, I could only press OK. It wasn't showing in our cart on either phone so I submitted again. Then it showed up twice. Someone did finally come when we used the call button, a friendly guy that said he'd let the kitchen know the order was doubled. But the second order started coming out on the conveyor. Called someone over again and I guess they fixed it then. Didn't stay long enough to need to use the bathroom so don't have info on it.

What an experience! The food here was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. A meal for two people was roughly $20 for what felt like all you can eat sushi. The selection is large and the food comes out freshly made. The bullet trains that they come out on had me giggling every time something came out. It’s a good form of entertainment while you eat.

The food was good and reasonably priced and they have a lot of options to choose from and you get to order your food right from your table and this little train brings it out to you. It reminded me of being a kid, but also cool little concept to stick out from other restaurants and you can really get to enjoy your company that you are with. Without any interruptions because you get to order from the kiosk right at your table. I hope this helps you out and have a great day

Let's rate this review from start to finish... The initial walk in was really good, greeted and sat almost immediately. I guess Tuesday isn't quite a busy night, as there were many open tables, booths and bar type seatings. That's where things went a little slow on service, the girl who sat us asked what we wanted to drink. As we were giving our drink orders, she had to abruptly leave, when she came back she couldn't remember even one drink from our order, so we had to start all over. I have no idea where she had to run off to, but at least she came back.. After that ordering is always a bit humbug at this location because the iPads that they use to be able to take orders is attached to the table. When sitting on the outside part of the table, it is very inconvenient to have to reach over to look at the menu, they don't even have the regular laminated paper menus to look at. Aside from that, ordering stuff is usually pretty easy, select what you want and press the order button... Another thing that bothers me, is that you don't know what is in the sushi rolls, you just have to look at the picture and try to figure it out, and it's not like you can bring the iPad close to your face to examine the picture, you kind of just have to know... Another thing I noticed about genki is that a lot of their roll sushi is the same, but they just have different toppings, which I find a little bit strange, but I never really noticed before.. Also, after we ordered a few things, which you can only order 4 things at a time, but continuously if you wish, we were brought something we didn't order... We had to double check what we did order just in case someone accidently added it on.. but we didn't, and had to call the server back. Which there is a convenient button on the iPad. The girl promptly came back and took back the wrong order... But makes you wonder if they're paying attention... The sushi was good, rolls, sashimi, sukiyaki udon, french fries, poke bowl, and and nigiri, so overall food was good. But service was lacking a bit, we made a drink order through the iPad and it never came... We waited 10 mins...after we tried the service button... We tried it three times before someone came to check up on us. What was annoying about that situation, was that there were at least 5 to 6 girls standing by the drink station.... Overall food was good, but service brought the stars down...
