Zippy's - Honolulu (S King St)
About
A Local Institution on King Street
Walking into this specific Honolulu landmark, you are greeted by the hum of locals grabbing a quick bite and the unmistakable, savory aroma of simmering chili. This is the heart of Hawaii comfort food. While the parking lot can be a squeeze during the lunch rush, the efficiency of the staff keeps the line moving as fast as the orders come out.
The Legendary Chili Experience
Known across the islands for its signature chili, the recipe remains a culinary staple that defines the Zippy’s brand. Whether you prefer it over rice, atop a bed of crispy fries, or paired with a warm Portuguese sausage omelet, it is the item that anchors the menu. The kitchen team here handles the fast-paced environment with precision, serving up plate lunches that feel like a home-cooked meal even if you are just passing through the McCully-Moiliili area.
Why Locals Keep Coming Back
Beyond the chili, the menu is an expansive collection of island favorites. The Zip Min—a steaming bowl of noodle soup—is perfect for those rainy afternoons often found near the base of the mountains. The booth seating offers a nostalgic, diner-style aesthetic that has defined generations of family dinners in the city. It is loud, it is busy, and it is unapologetically authentic to the local lifestyle. If you want to understand the rhythm of Honolulu outside the tourist-heavy districts, this is your starting point.

This is the best Zippys on Oahu. Most consistent food, best trained staff. It may be because it is right beside corporate headquarters, but honestly I don't care why- just keep those delicious fries in their fresh oil and the perfectly grilled hamburgers coming.

One guy that opens the counter in the mornings is so pleasant, remembers everybody’s name and orders. He is such a joy to encounter in the mornings. Food isn’t great but as expected for fast food, in the expensive side ($20/person). Plenty free parking and a dining room to dine in. Usually crowded in the mornings. They come out with new menu items regularly. For fast takeout and no unexpected surprises, Zippy’s is the place to go. Good for family’s with a keiki menu.

Zippys is a fast food chain where you can get Hawaiian food. I had their oxtail which was good and tender, but cost 30&, my husband had the chili moco, he said it was good, they cook your eggs the right way too. Try Zippys!!!

Our first time at a Zippy’s, which is kinda like an ihop lol, and it was great! Our waiter Kevin was a rockstar, the place was def understaffed but he did a wonderful job! I had a mini Korean fried chicken (Bonchon like) with brown rice and corn and it was the perfect portion.

I ordered their seasonal plate. It was filling, but the meal could have used some vegetables to break up the flavor. The chicken was slightly greasier than I prefer, though the chili was a classic. Overall, it was a heavy meal but a good portion for the price. The dining area left something to be desired, so I decided to take it to go. Staff were friendly and welcoming.

We decided to eat here after the other restaurant we chose was full. It was very busy. So we were excited that the food was going to be very good. We ordered the mini special, grilled cheese, a salad, and Korean fried chicken. The cashier was very nice and patient with us. The food was ok. It was kinda bland for our Texas taste buds. It took a while for the food to come out. The price was a little high. There were no free refills. Overall the people were nice and the food was ok.
