Zippy's - Honolulu (N Nimitz Hwy)
About
A Local Staple on the Nimitz Corridor
When you find yourself cruising along the Nimitz Highway in Honolulu, the bright, welcoming sign of Zippy's serves as a beacon for those craving authentic local comfort food. This location captures the quintessential Hawaii diner experience, acting as a crossroads for everyone from early-morning surfers and industrial workers to families looking for a reliable post-game meal.
The Taste of Hawaii’s Melting Pot
You cannot talk about this establishment without highlighting their famous Zip Min—a steaming bowl of noodle soup that defines the menu’s soul. The richness of their signature chili is equally legendary, often served over a bed of fluffy white rice or as a hearty topping for their crispy fries. If you catch the lunch rush, the air is thick with the savory scent of gravy and the clatter of plates, creating a high-energy environment that feels like the heartbeat of the island.
Beyond the Menu
The space is functional and unpretentious, designed for quick service and long-standing traditions. One minor detail to note: the parking lot during peak hours can be quite a challenge to navigate as local traffic surges, so keep your eyes sharp for tight spots near the entrance. Despite the bustle, there is a consistent rhythm here that makes it a bedrock of Honolulu dining. Whether you are grabbing a quick box of Malasadas from the bakery counter or settling into a booth for a full-plate lunch, the experience is unmistakably Hawaii.

This is our go-to Zippy's- and we live closer to 3 other Zippy's locations. After a long day of adventuring with your family, this is the spot to be. They've got lots of parking and the staff welcome you like family. Our 3 kids love dining here! Their food is always hot and delicious. The atmosphere is relaxed, in contrast to the hustle of busier locations.

We tried Zippy’s for the second time hoping for a better experience, but unfortunately we still don’t understand the hype. The food was disappointing overall — it was overly salty, tasted very plain, and didn’t feel fresh or well-prepared. On top of that, the cleanliness of the place was also not up to standard, which made the experience even less enjoyable. At this point, we don’t see ourselves returning. Hopefully improvements can be made because the reputation doesn’t match the actual experience we had.

Well, these Kansas folk found Zippy’s and I’m hoping to go back!! Everything we had was delicious, I highly recommend the Korean Chicken. Spam was good and their rice is delicious!!

I was born and raised in Hawaiʻi and grew up in Wahiawa, so Zippy’s has always been a part of my life, even before I started going to the Nimitz location. Zippy’s Nimitz still feels like a local gem that never disappoints, with an inner restaurant that’s warm and familiar, the kind of comfortable, welcoming space where I can relax and enjoy classic local dishes done right every single time. The bakery section is just as impressive, bright and well-stocked with beautifully made cakes, pies, and local-style desserts that always tempt me to take something home and make the visit feel complete.

Amazing service very sweet and kind people. I’m not old I’m in my 20s and it’s Hawai’i but it was freeezing inside the one we went to. Clean, quick food but I don’t think it had much flavor to it. Just a quick local spot, but a huge menu too I only tried one thing.

I love this place for what it is. It's a must when visiting Hawaii. For those who don't know it's kind of like a Dennys, but with a Hawaiian flare and the food is wayyyy better.

Love Zippy's, great service and fast at the same time. I always make it a point to make it to a Zippy's while on island. Would recommend this place to anyone looking a for a bite to eat. Chili chicken is my favorite to get here.

Zippy’s always delivers great food. I love the fried chicken as it’s always so juicy with a strong crisp skin. I got the chicken trio this time and I was super impressed with all three items in it. The Korean fried chicken was moist, tender, and super well flavored with an excellent sauce. The restaurant is clean and well maintained with plenty of parking. Overall, I know I will be coming back for some amazing food that I can’t stop eating.

Clean restrooms and clean tables and floor. Tess was awesome with my 3 grandchildren and patient as the decided on their food selections and served food still piping hot. We ate the typical breakfast fare: Belgium Waffles, Zippy Omelettes and Korean Fried Chicken.

Nice location that has been recently renovated. Air con is super cold. Everyone that first walked in without a jacket, went back to their car to get a jacket. Food was consistent with majority of other locations. This location probably not as busy as makiki or mccully since its away from more of the residential areas. Meat combo has a lot of meat. Waffle nice and crispy just as the bacon was too. Overall great service.
