Zippy's - Honolulu (N Vineyard Blvd)
About
A Local Institution on Vineyard Boulevard
Stepping into Zippy’s on Vineyard is a rite of passage for anyone seeking the authentic taste of Hawaii. This Honolulu staple captures the spirit of local island dining, where the scent of simmering beef stew and sweet Hawaiian bread greets you the moment you walk through the doors. It is the kind of place where high school students grabbing a post-game snack sit comfortably alongside office workers fueling up for the afternoon shift.
The Chili and Everything Else
You cannot talk about this landmark without highlighting the legendary chili. Whether you order it over a bed of rice or as part of a Zip Pac bento, the secret-recipe, slow-cooked flavor is an essential piece of local culinary history. Beyond the bowls of chili, the menu is an expansive map of island-style comfort. Expect everything from crisp, golden-fried chicken to hearty saimin noodles that provide the perfect cure for a humid Honolulu day.
A Few Things to Know
While the service is famously brisk and efficient, newcomers should be prepared for the distinct energy of a high-traffic diner. The parking lot can get tight during the lunch rush, and the steady hum of conversation creates a bustling, unpretentious soundtrack. It is not designed for quiet, candlelit dinners; it is built for satisfying cravings with food that feels like home. If you want to eat like a local in the heart of the city, this is where you go.

We were seated by a host named Sylvia around 11:30am on June 11th. While entering the restaurant, I accidentally walked in the wrong direction. Instead of helping me, she raised her voice at me in front of other guests, then shook her head at me and exchanged a mocking look with another customer to make me look foolish. This made me feel incredibly unwelcome and disrespected. A hostess should guide customers with kindness, not mock them for a simple mistake. My husband also found her behavior rude. It was hard to enjoy my food after that, I wanted to leave but everyone I was with was hungry.

Greeted and sat promptly at a clean booth by a friendly person. Diner atmosphere meets a museum or something. High ceilings and lots of large windows with natural light and brick walls. Got a “prime burger” with cheese and bacon with fries. Glad they have Pepsi zero because diet Pepsi is nasty. My drink order is taken right away, and the food order only a moment later. My food came out fairly quickly. Burger was medium sized. Probably a quarter pound patty with large serving of fries. That ratio suits me fine. Burger patty looks pre-formed frozen. But, It was hot and juicy, and the bun and vegetables seem very fresh. Little bit of high-quality mustard and no mayonnaise but not dry at all. Fries were hot fresh and crispy. Bacon was a little chewy and could’ve been crisp up Better. but still very enjoyable meal overall. I’m fine with four dollars for bacon since it was a good amount. But, $5.20 for a soda is wild. Owner of Zippy’s gave me a pleasant response to my review. But, it disappeared when I edited some mistakes out of my review. Thanks anyway, Zippys!

Had an awesome meal at Zippy's with my family. My 4 years old absolutely loved his Spaghetti from the Keiki menu, and the Korean Fried Chicken breakfast with over-hard eggs and SPAM was phenomenal. Excellent value, great atmosphere and kindness. The place was very clean and well kept. Awesome!

Parking is tight, there's a small parking lot. Metered parking can be found along Vineyard Blvd. and on side streets. Two dining options: order at a counter in-person or via their app and sit at an open table in the patio area. There's also air-conditioned restaurant dining with tables & booth seating (a host or hostess will seat you). There's also an option to pick up your order at their drive-thru line, but u can't order food in line, u have to call it in ahead of time or order via their app ahead of time. You'll be notified in real time via SMS if u order via the app! They also have a bakery if you have a sweet tooth.

1/2026 We came to this convenient location after a funeral service. The waiter, I'm sorry I didn't catch the name of the old man bruddah like me, gave us such great service and happily accommodated all of our requests including the "deconstructed chili moco". Mahalo Brother for making our impromptu luncheon a great experience. The company shines with employees like you! 😉🤙✌️

Who would think that fried chicken, fried fish, spam, teriyaki beef, seaweed sprinkled white rice, Mac salad, and chili would all go together. But get the Zip Pac and show your tongue and mouth a good time!! It’s in a rough neighborhood but the food is delicious. Also excellent service. Panhandlers waiting outside for offerings.

Food was so flavorful here. For the price, the portions were really generous, I was famished that I had no trouble finishing it. I ordered the chicken trio and it was magnificent, had three flavors, golden fried, Kastu and Korean bbq. The rest were garlic steak, Korean bbq salad. Staff was attentive, service was fast and accomodating. Highly recommended and come in with an strong appetite.

We’re long time Zippys customers but first time giving a review. We stopped by for the hotdog with chili, two scoops rice and one scoop macaroni salad for $9.99. We ordered the max of 5 orders as was visiting relatives for lunch. Service was great, friendly and quick (under 15 minutes) considering we didn’t order ahead, although I would usually use app and would recommend app. Chili and Mac salad are delicious and consistently good. Portion sizes are generous. You can earn points using the app for free deals as well. Great long standing local restaurant for comfort food, potlucks, soccer and sports gatherings.

Usually an OK place to eat. Modest pricing for the portions. My favorite dish so far has been their monthly specials, like the Miso Salmon & Miso chicken plate with brown rice if they have it. I gave a few stars because last time I went there and got my food, the older woman who called my order called me over just to leave my food on her side of the counter. I had to reach ALL the way over the counter to grab it. It may be a bit petty and not seem like much, but it's the little things that matter in customer service. Especially when all she had to do was push the food towards me... I think many employees take what they have for granted, and as a culture, we need to do better. Other than that, they have a big selection of desserts and sweets to choose from along with your meal. I also enjoy the Portuguese bean soup ! (Update) 7-5-25 A flimsy piece of bread that I asked over the phone to be EXTRA TOASTED because I know they barely toast the bread, smh 🤦 What does a brother have to do to get good food around here ?!
