An Izakaya Escape in Honolulu
Walking into Yakitori Glad feels like stepping off the sun-drenched sidewalks of Honolulu and straight into a late-night Tokyo alleyway. The air is thick with the savory, charcoal-kissed aroma of binchotan-grilled chicken, and the sound of clinking beer glasses and lively conversation fills the space. This is a place built for those who appreciate the communal energy of a classic Japanese izakaya.
Mastering the Skewer
At the heart of the menu are the signature yakitori skewers. You will find everything from traditional thigh and skin to more adventurous cuts, all charred precisely over high-heat charcoal. The chefs prioritize the integrity of the ingredients, using a house-made tare sauce that balances salty, sweet, and umami notes. Pair these skewers with a chilled draft beer or a glass of sake; it is the quintessential way to end a long day near the Ala Moana district.
The Experience
The space is intentionally compact, creating a snug environment where you might find yourself elbow-to-elbow with locals and tourists alike. The intimacy is part of the charm, though it does mean the noise level can climb during the peak dinner rush. Whether you are looking for a quick bite after shopping or a place to settle in for a long session of grazing through the menu, the staff maintains an efficient, no-fuss service style. It is unpretentious, straightforward, and focused entirely on the craft of the grill.

Food is bomb, service is great, servers are cool as hell, and vibes of the place are immaculate. Special shout out to Troy for making our group feel at home. Was not expecting such a cool experience from this hole in the wall. Absolute gem of a restaurant.

It's a yakitori restaurant with charcoal-grilled skewers. The cozy atmosphere of a small Japanese izakaya is pleasant, but there are also spacious seats at the back. The food is simply delicious. We enjoyed cold tofu and four types of grilled chicken skewers while sipping on Japanese beer 🍺, plum wine 🍷, and sake.

I love the environment. Feels very local. They play Japanese city pop in the store which brings you to the feeling immediately. Food is not surprisingly good but decent. Very busy. Friendly cook and staffs.
