Yakiniku Korea House (2494 S Beretania St)
About
A Gritty Slice of K-Town on Beretania
Finding authentic Korean barbecue in Honolulu usually leads diners to the bustling stretch of S. Beretania Street. Yakiniku Korea House occupies a modest corner of the neighborhood, favoring function over flair. As you step inside, the immediate scent of seasoned meats hitting scorching tabletop grills creates an unmistakable, savory fog that clings to your clothes—a sure sign of a serious barbecue session.
The Art of the Tabletop Grill
This spot is built for groups who don’t mind a bit of elbow-to-elbow contact. The menu centers on classic marinated kalbi and thinly sliced brisket that sizzles rapidly once it touches the grate. Because the ventilation system has seen better days, the dining room carries a dense, smoky energy that feels more like an industrial kitchen than a polished bistro. It is the kind of place where the beer stays cold, the kimchi arrives with a sharp, fermented punch, and the service moves at the brisk pace of a busy neighborhood canteen.
Local Insights for First-Timers
Parking in this part of Honolulu can be a logistical puzzle, so prepare to circle the block or navigate the tight lot with patience. The decor is strictly utilitarian—no frills, just heavy-duty tables and plenty of sides to keep the meal balanced. If you are looking for a white-tablecloth experience, look elsewhere. However, for those craving high-heat searing and a casual atmosphere where the focus remains entirely on the quality of the beef, this establishment delivers a direct and honest Korean dining experience in the heart of the island.

1) The bulgogi so SWEET I couldn't eat. I thought I was eating bulgogi candy! 2) Soft tofu soup was okay and had ONLY had TWO Clams, I was fishing for more clams but COULDN'T find any more! 3) Server's never came back after order was delivered and when we needed something, we had to call them. They were just seating on the chair and talking! 4) Not cheap! 5) Side dishes were terrible, no taste and choke red peppers. NOT RECOMMENDED.

The quality of the meat is perfect. Seriously the best I’ve had on O’ahu. This is my family & I’s go-to Korean bbq restaurant for May years now & for good reason! I recommend making a reservation for dinner because the seats fill up pretty quickly. Parking is a bit small but there’s always a couple open when I go.

Very filling, tons of food for group of 5, was about $200 total with 18% tip. Water refills was bit slow, but cooking your own food was an experience in it self. We got 3 different meats, 2 large bowls of miso soup, an few little sample plates to snack on prior to big meal.

I got to try their beef combination stew and it was great. The broth was thick as boiled with the bone for a long period and it clearly showed by taste and feel. The service was very pleasant and efficient.

This KBBQ place in Honolulu gets crowded for a reason. Great place to go with a group of friends on weekdays since youll probably wait a while if its on the weekends. Authentic Korean Yakiniku restaurant, the ambiance has it all. Quality of meats is better than the AYCE places, with the sides and portions personally id rather come here. Great food, service is hit or miss when busy but last visit it was excellent. Ordered the set for 2 along with a side order pork belly and intestines, comes with refillable banchan sides and either kimchee or miso soups. Gotta have the plastic bottle Hite beer and soju too🤙🤙Waitress was attentive and changed our grill several times. 5 stars🤙🤙

We were promptly treated and got our drinks quick, we ordered our food and the side dishes came out super fast. My husband loves their tradition kimchee, I loved their cucumber kimchee/salad, we both got second orders. My husband got the kal bi and I got the beef bulgogi, the kal bi was incredible. The beef bulgogi was also pretty good. We loved the fresh vegetables that were cooked with our food. Great service and great atmosphere.

Had lunch here with family. I didn't get pictures of all the dishes with ordered. Just the hot stone pot bibimbap and all the sides. My family liked the mandoo soup, the miso one, and the purple rice one. We liked the combination plate too (it had bbq chicken, kalbi, and beef on a bed of onions on a hot plate). The sides were not bad. Nothing stood out as good or bad. Kim cheese was fresh, instead of sour (my preference), salad was sweet, japchae was okay. Restaurant is very cold. However, it was clean and had decent ventilation for people who wanted to cook. Ventilation is directly over each bbq area and is adjustable. Downside no matter what, your clothes will smell like bbq. The servers were patient and helpful. They were attentive and for two people running around with the number of people in the restaurant. It went smoothly. Note: The only thing that bothered me was the price of the lunch specials. Hot stone pot bibimbap cost difference between lunch and dinner was only $2.00. Looking online, size and content in both are the same. Lol apparently few other dishes were similar...so I suggest coming at lunch time, instead of dinner. You'll save a few dollars.

I visited here by one of my friends’ recommendation and it was the most amazing Korean bbq I’ve had in Oahu. The meat quality is comparable to the ones in Korea. The banchans are high quality and delicious. I highly recommend to anyone that wants a legit Korean bbq.

We came to try this place for the first time and we were pleasantly surprised. There were two parties waiting ahead of us when we arrived but we got seated fairly quickly so that was really nice. This place was super busy. There was a great variety of parties eating here. We felt it was a bit pricey but all of us pretty much enjoyed our meal and we left happy. We were recommended a meat plate to share and we also ordered Bulgogi and a seafood pancake. The servers were very attentive and they turned over tables really quickly. Even still we didn't feel rushed at all I would recommend coming here if you're in the area. I think it's definitely worth a try
