A Front-Row Seat to Japanese Teppanyaki

Tucked away in the heart of Honolulu, Yaki Yaki Miwa offers a departure from the typical Waikiki tourist traps. This intimate spot specializes in the art of teppanyaki, where the rhythmic sound of spatulas hitting the hot steel grill serves as the soundtrack to your meal. The scent of sizzling garlic and soy sauce fills the small, counter-heavy space, creating an immediate, comforting warmth as soon as you step inside.

The Culinary Performance

Chef Miwa leads the kitchen with precise, practiced movements. The menu focuses on high-quality proteins—specifically their tender, melt-in-your-mouth wagyu and perfectly seared seafood. Unlike larger, theatrical teppanyaki chains that prioritize flash over substance, this kitchen values the integrity of the ingredients. Watching the chef meticulously prepare your order directly in front of you is a masterclass in culinary focus. You will find that the garlic fried rice is a non-negotiable side dish, cooked until each grain reaches a satisfying, crisp texture that pairs flawlessly with the main courses.

What to Expect

Because the space is quite compact, don't expect a sprawling dining room; it is a cozy, no-frills environment where the food takes center stage. It is ideal for couples or small groups of friends looking for a quiet, high-quality dinner rather than a loud social scene. Note that seating is limited, so reservations are highly encouraged. Be prepared for a lingering, savory aroma on your clothes when you leave—a minor, delicious trade-off for a meal prepared with such dedication. It is a quintessential local find for those craving a personalized, authentic Japanese dining experience away from the bustling city crowds.

JAPANESE LADY SERVER ON FEB 27,2026 IS VERY RUDE, IF SHE DON’T LIKE THE TIP YOU GIVE THEN SHE WILL ASK FOR MORE MONEY. WHEN MY SON ASKED HER “is my tip not enough for the bare minimum services you gave us and the little amount of food we ordered? Do you need more money so you will be satisfied ?” She waitress responded “yes more money because tip is based on bill amount not service” FIRST OF ALL ITS NOT MANDATORY AND MY SON GAVE 15% gratituty. He gave extra $20 DONATION to her so she will be satisfied. GRATUITY IS BASED ON GOOD SERVICE NOT BILL AMOUNT. I WILL NEVER COME BACK TO EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT AND I WILL TELL EVERYONE HERE IN HONOLULU THAT I KNOW NOT TO EAT HERE EVER!!

Absolutely disgusting behavior at this restaurant. They squeezed us in since we dont have a reservation, which i appreciated. After I ate the Japanese lady server with long hair and wearing new balance sneakers who served us on Feb 27, 2026 served us. After we ate and paid I gave a 15% tip. Minutes later the server explained to us that the tip is not enough. Even though the food was good, She barely even served us, did not check up on us, and even gave us attitude when we placed our order. I gave her an extra $20 cash so that she can get out of my face. Does this waitress think I don’t have money to give for tip? I literally ordered yakisoba and okonomiyaki only.. which is why I have only 15% gratuity… she then goes on that the tip is based on bill amount and not by service!! Insane!! Its the customers choice on how much tip they want to give. They rushed us during the entire meal. They only treat the japanese customers well but if you are not japanese they will treat you unequal. Maybe she needs that money more than I do so it is what it is. Hopefully management will do something regarding this behavior. I dont recommend this restaurant if you want a decent dining experience. They even say you need reservations before coming. Why dont they advertise that on their business page? Also my father needs water for medical purposes, he has bottled water for medications. She then says earlier while ordering that “cannot drink outside water” we respectfully obliged. But if you dont allow outside drinks at least offer tap water so we are not obligated to buy your overpriced mineral water. Just because these staff work in the US and not in japan they think they can abuse the insane tipping culture that we have here. To that waitress that served us earlier: I HOPE THAT $29 TIP FOR BARE MINIMUM SERVICE I GAVE TO YOU EARLIER IS ENOUGH AND WILL BE USED FOR GOOD PURPOSES!!! I HAVE BEEN TO JAPAN MANY TIMES ALREADY BUT I NEVER MET A JAPANESE PERSON LIKE YOU WITH THAT KIND OF ATTITUDE. YOU ARE AN EMBARRASSMENT TO YOUR CULTURE WHO ARE NOTORIOUS FOR BEING POLITE TO THEIR GUESTS AND NOT HAVING A TIPPING CULUTURE !! FYI THAT ADDITIONAL MONEY I GAVE YOU IN CASH IS NOT A TIP, IT IS A DONATION!

Yaki Yaki Miya in Honolulu is absolutely our favorite restaurant in Hawaii, and one of our top restaurant experiences worldwide. The small intimate Japanese experience of dining grill-side, watching the chefs attentively prepare everyone's meals, teppanyaki-style, and then enjoying the incredible flavors are truly unforgettable experiences. The Okonomiyaki (cabbage pancake, with seafood) is our favorite. The staff is very welcoming. Prices are extremely reasonable. We've eaten here many times during the past few years, during our visits to Honolulu. Eating here is one of the reasons we enjoy Honolulu so much.

Delicious. Wagyu⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐along with okonomiyaki, yakisoba were all really good The other steak we got was not as good but I think it's because the wagyu was delicious. Clams, grilled vegs, cheese dish (cant remember the name), garlic fried rice, along with some others were just okay in comparison. But overall, a really outstanding and memorable meal in Honolulu. Worth visiting for sure.

OK....this was REALLY GOOD! From the moment we stepped inside and were greeted by server, Collin, we knew this would be a great experience. Then the teppanyaki chefs started their magic, creating delicious Wagu fillet, Beef Tongue and the famous Okonomiyaki savory pancakes. If you can, try to get seats at the main cooking table.... it'll be dinner & a show! Nothing fancy, but here it's not about the decor but rather the cuisine. Definitely off the beaten Waikiki path...on funky King Street, but walkable from Waikiki or easily accessible by ride share. I only wish they would serve a nice Japanese whiskey. All in all a solid 5* food experience.

My fav izakaya in Oahu. Korokoro steak and horumon yaki were amazing! I was there by myself and the chef/owner was kind enough to accommodate my preference and cooked omakase style of set menu for me. I’ll definitely come back. The vibe there was pretty cozy and authentic.

Really delicious. We tried three of their specials plus a couple of items from their regular menu. All were great! Loved this place and wish they'd come to the bay area too!
