Wolfgang's Steakhouse By Wolfgang Zwiener
About
A New York Steakhouse Tradition in Waikiki
Stepping into Wolfgang's Steakhouse at the Royal Hawaiian Center feels like a high-stakes meeting of worlds: the classic, wood-paneled prestige of a Park Avenue institution meets the relaxed, tropical breeze of Honolulu. Founded by Wolfgang Zwiener, a veteran of Peter Luger Steak House, this spot stays true to the rigorous standards of old-school butchery.
The Art of the Dry-Aged Porterhouse
The main event is, without question, the Porterhouse. Arriving on a searing-hot porcelain platter, the steak sizzles aggressively, the butter pooling alongside the charred, ruby-red center. Because they dry-age their USDA Prime beef on-site, the flavor profile is punchy and concentrated—a distinct, nutty tang that separates a standard grill from this specific culinary craft. The crust is aggressively salted and crisped, providing a crunchy contrast to the buttery, tender interior of the filet side.
Atmosphere and Local Nuance
The dining room leans into dark mahogany tones and leather booths, creating an environment that feels disconnected from the beach crowds just outside. It is the kind of place where business deals are finalized over crisp martinis and heavy silverware. Be prepared for a lively, sometimes boisterous sound level as the evening progresses; the acoustics tend to amplify the clatter of silverware and the buzz of conversation. While the service is polished and attentive, note that the popularity of the location means a reservation is not just a suggestion, but a necessity to avoid a long wait in the foyer. Whether you are ordering the thick-cut Canadian bacon or the creamed spinach, the portions are massive, designed for sharing and built for those with an uncompromising appetite for traditional American steakhouse fare.

My husband and I stopped in for lunch before our Cirque Du Soleil Show. I must say it was quite different from what I was expecting. The staff were nice and courteous. However atmosphere was nice but I didn't care for the birds to be flying around in the restaurant. I would have left but my husband decided he wanted to stay. How can someone enjoy their meal with bird bouncing off chairs flying under the tables waiting for food to drop or even try to take your food. I think I would have enjoyed my meal better if I wasn't worrying about that. Just CLOSE the doors so people can enjoy their food. The service was nice but for some reason they messed up my order and gave me creamed spinach instead of sautéed spinach. Our waitress even said it back to me. On another note...it would have be nice if they had written in the menu that the sides were shareable or even tell the person and let them make up their minds if they wanted to order the side. I probably wouldn't have ordered it since my husband's meal came with sides which I found out was a shareable portion. The presentation was lovely as you can see in the pictures. However, for paying that kind of money I would have expected for the shrimp to be tender even if it's served cold...that goes for the lobster as well. I must say that the lump crab meat was the most enjoyable. The crab was prepared just right. I am a connoisseur when it comes to seafood if I must say. All in all it was nice but I probably would not go back there unless they were going to give me a do over on their dime.

June 5th, around 3:00 PM, my girlfriend and I visited your restaurant. My girlfriend chose your restaurant to celebrate my birthday, and I had been looking forward to this meal for quite some time. What should have been a special and memorable occasion unfortunately became a very disappointing experience. Since we are light eaters, we ordered drinks and the Taste of New York steak, cooked medium rare, and shared it between us. However, when the steak arrived, it was clearly overcooked. Anyone with experience eating steak at restaurants would have noticed immediately. For context, I am a professional chef. The moment I saw the steak, I knew it was not medium rare. I asked our server, “Is this medium rare?” The server looked uncertain and hesitated before asking what appeared to be a floor manager nearby. The manager then replied: “That is a very nice medium rare.” I did not agree with that assessment, but I didn’t want to ruin the occasion that my girlfriend had planned, so I chose not to argue further. Did they assume that because we were a young Asian couple, we wouldn’t know the difference between steak temperatures? To make matters worse, the steak itself was not particularly good. It tasted as if it had not been aged long enough. I even found myself wondering whether less-developed or unsuccessful cuts were being served during lunch service. After that, our server came by and casually asked how everything was. I felt forced to respond, “Yeah, it’s good 👍,” even though that was far from how I actually felt. The reason I am writing this review is that after the meal, my girlfriend also expressed concerns about both the doneness of the steak and its flavor. When we discussed it afterward, we both agreed that the way the situation was handled was not appropriate. Wolfgang’s is not an inexpensive steakhouse. This was our first visit, and we had been genuinely looking forward to it. That is exactly why the experience was so disappointing. Sadly, we will not be returning.

Looking for a place to eat for lunch and came across this place. Didn't know it was a fancy restaurant until we sat down and saw the menu prices. You get what you pay for here and they do have a lunch menu which has reasonable prices. I knew it was fancy the moment we got asked what kind of water we wanted. Good fine dining place for those taking out their significant other or want to experience high end restaurant eating.

An absolute 10/10 experience! The steak here is incredible—super soft, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and packed with delicious flavor. Beyond the food, the customer service is truly high-end; the staff goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome. The atmosphere manages to feel upscale yet completely relaxing. We were also incredibly impressed by how accommodating and welcoming they are with kids, which made for a seamless family dinner. Pro Tip: If you park at the Royal Hawaiian Center, make sure to get your parking validated at the restaurant before you leave! Highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Located on the third floor of the Royal Hawaiian Center, one of Waikiki’s most stylish shopping malls, Wolfgang’s Steakhouse boasts a prime and convenient location, perfect for a break between shopping or sightseeing. We visited during happy hour for a late lunch. As expected for such a popular spot, making a reservation through OpenTable or a similar booking system is highly recommended. The signature “Taste of New York” features an extremely thick, bone-in sirloin steak. Thanks to the dry-aging process, the steak delivers an outstanding aroma and deep, concentrated flavor that truly lives up to its reputation. That said, it does have a firm, chewy texture, which may come down to personal preference. The classic sides—mashed potatoes and creamy spinach—were also excellent and paired perfectly with the steak. The “Loco Moco” was another standout, featuring a hearty, meat-forward hamburger patty that was both satisfying and flavorful. There are many other tempting menu items, but portions are generous across the board. Keeping group size and sharing in mind when ordering will help ensure a more enjoyable and well-balanced dining experience.

Got a reservation for dinner. The fire alarm rang when we were about to go up to the restaurant. They cleared it pretty fast. We got sit in an awkward place kind of in the path of everyone who was walking by. Zero for ambiance. Food used to be great but I’m kind of over it. Not as tasty as making steak at home. Once you learn the secret it really isn’t that hard. I know he is from Peter Luger and I have the same feeling about that place too. The best thing we had was the Canadian bacon. Steak is overrated.

Been going here for years our younger daughter would eat here for breakfast lunch and dinner every day if we let her. We’ve had amazing experience with Timmy, Dean, Andrew and Alison and everybody’s very nice. The food is consistently great delicious. But the people are more important. There is a bar, but we haven’t sat at the bar before it seems to be pretty popular. desserts are pretty amazing too, but our favorites are ribeye steak chopped salad onion soup mashed potatoes and our 12-year-old loves the creamed spinach now.

It had been six years since my last visit, before the pandemic. We visited for our final dinner in Hawaii, and the food was superb, of course, but the service and atmosphere were also truly wonderful. Particularly, the hospitality of our server, I believe his name was Kevin san, was outstanding and made for the best dinner. We will definitely visit again soon! From the Japanese gentleman who received the wine opener.

When the wait staff tell you portions are to share listen. The filet is at least 12 oz which explains the 100.00+ price tag. By its self it was tender and juicy but needed the pepercorn gravy for depth of flavor. Salmon and chocolate mouse cake nothing to write home about. The crab cake with the tarter sauce was realy good. Over all not worth the price, realy paying to eat at Ole Wolfgangs establishment. I was expecting a little more.
