Westman Cafe + Lounge
About
A Morning Anchor in Honolulu’s Urban Core
Situated within the pulsing streets of Kaka’ako, Westman Cafe + Lounge has become a staple for those who view coffee not just as a wake-up call, but as a craft. The aesthetic is unmistakably modern, characterized by high ceilings and a minimalist design that allows the aroma of freshly ground beans to dominate the senses. It’s an ideal spot for remote workers or locals seeking a quick, high-quality bite before hitting the nearby boutiques.
The Culinary Focus
The kitchen leans into a sophisticated approach to comfort food. Their signature thick-cut Japanese-style toasts are a standout, often topped with seasonal fruit or savory combinations that break away from the standard cafe fare. You will hear the rhythmic hiss of the espresso machine and the chatter of the bustling neighborhood crowd, creating a high-energy backdrop that feels quintessentially Honolulu.
A Local Nuance
While the menu is impeccable, be prepared for the reality of urban parking in this district. Spaces can be elusive, so you might find yourself navigating the surrounding side streets to find a spot. However, once you are inside, the efficient service and the quality of their pour-overs make the hunt worth the effort. Whether you are looking for a mid-morning recharge or a casual setting for a business catch-up, the cafe balances speed with a distinctly polished atmosphere.

I am usually hesitant with ordering omelettes because I have a specific way I like eggs to be cooked, but this was the best surprise ever. Egg was fluffy and flavorful, and the spinach, mushroom, bacon was enjoyable to the very end. My wife got the wagyu loco moco and I can attest that the gravy and beef are amazing. Love the burst of flavor versus the overpowering taste of salt most places have for their gravy in a loco moco. Mimosas are so so so good, especially the guava, because they use quality champagne that will not give you a headache like others. Be sure to visit soon, looks like they are moving to Ward Village in the near future and won’t be available to Waikiki.

The atmosphere and ambiance was fantastic! We had made reservations for early morning at 8am. The staff was very friendly from when we got checked in to be seated and served. It does begin to fill up around 9:30 am so make sure to make reservations or arrive early to avoid waiting. We stopped by because we saw their popular soufflé pancakes were a fan favorite. The mango sauce was great! Pancakes were soft and fluffy; however, the taste just wasn't quite there. They tasted a bit bland. I was slightly disappointed, but I recommend you try them out. My girlfriend really liked them, especially when paired with the mango sauce.

We were so glad to find WESTMAN as we were seeking for an upscale breakfast place where we could enjoy views and have a conversation. You are greeted in a lobby and once you check-in, you're led to the dining hall upstairs. Super woody and high ceilings with an entire wall of sunlight coming in. Immediately we were enamored by the atmosphere. Food was amazing. You must get the souffle pancakes. These are made with beaten egg whites, slowly cooked. They take a while to prepare but are absolutely worth it. Also the French toast is made with their house-made brioche - thick, crispy and soft. Just perfect. The food comes out on a bit blander side but they do provide amazing compote (a matcha drizzle!) and syrup. The only blemish is I think they can use better coffee beans. Service was fabulous and overall we fell in love with WESTMAN. Yes, it is a bit pricey but it is totally worth it. We'll be back whenever we're in town.
