About
A Slice of Italy in the Waterfront Plaza
Located in the heart of Honolulu’s Waterfront Plaza, Vino Italian Tapas and Wine Bar offers a sophisticated departure from the typical island fare. The space is defined by its extensive glass-enclosed wine cellar, which serves as both a structural centerpiece and a promise of what lies ahead. You’ll find the air here carries the faint, comforting scent of roasted garlic and aged balsamic, punctuated by the rhythmic clinking of stemware and the hum of a bustling downtown crowd.
The Culinary Philosophy
Chef Keith Endo curates a menu that bridges the gap between traditional Italian techniques and Hawaii’s vibrant local produce. The signature osso buco is a masterclass in slow-cooked tenderness, often served alongside creamy polenta that practically melts upon contact. Their approach to tapas ensures that guests can navigate the menu through various textures—from crisp, house-made bruschetta to rich, herb-infused risottos. It is an ideal spot for those who prefer to linger over a shared meal rather than rushing through a standard entree.
Wine-Centric Socializing
For oenophiles exploring the Kaka’ako and downtown districts, the selection here is peerless. The staff possesses an uncanny ability to navigate their deep cellar, pairing robust Tuscan reds or crisp Vermentinos with specific small plates. While the acoustics can climb to a spirited volume during the post-work happy hour, the intensity of the chatter adds to the urban, metropolitan energy of the room. Keep in mind that the parking structure can be a bit of a labyrinth; give yourself a few extra minutes to navigate the ramps before your reservation to ensure a stress-free start to your evening.

Attentive service, very well social distancing for pandemic dining in requirements, felt safe. They now serve Sushi, Steaks collaborating with Sansei and D.K., yet limited fresh catch besides Ahi, as Vino's special. Considering feasibility, it seems to be a norm at majority of places nowadays.

Update: It sounds like the recent changes at Vino's are due to the pandemic, but I was very disappointed to come back. I was looking forward to coming back here for two years and now I would not recommend this place to anyone. Pasta was definitely from the box and overcooked. Tried their Spanish Octopus and I think they cooked it in Tostitos Salsa.... And the sushi, oh my gosh. If over half the menu is going to be sushi...the least you could do is not have packet shoyu. Service was ok. I won't say anything else because I am conflicted writing a bad review about a restaurant that used to be one of the best. Old post: Everything is fabulous here. I highly recommend to try the warm Apple tart paired with their Moscato. The bone marrow was amazing! Especially with the Osso Buco underneath. I also like the gnocchi because you can tell it's homemade

Dishes were nice and tasty. Due to covid it's kind of italian/sushi/steakhouse because their sister restaurants at waikiki closed. The service was ok and the pasta was tasty. But of you expect classy Italian restaurant it's kind of weird now.

This place has and always will be one of my favorites on Honolulu. During this pandemic, they did something really creative and brought their three restaurants together - Vino, DK Steakhouse and Sansei - and offer a menu featuring all the favorites. Not to mention the wine list here is fantastic.
