Precision Brewing in Kakaʻako

Walking into Try Coffee feels like stepping into a sanctuary of caffeine purity. Located in the heart of Honolulu’s vibrant Kakaʻako district, this spot strips away the excess of traditional cafes, leaving you with nothing but the hum of the grinder and the aroma of high-end, light-roast beans. The interior is sparse and industrial, prioritizing clean lines and open space that lets the coffee take center stage.

The Craft Behind the Cup

This is not the place for sugary frappes or heavy syrups. Try Coffee focuses heavily on the art of the pour-over and impeccably pulled shots of espresso. They rotate their roasters frequently, often highlighting small-batch beans from renowned specialty producers that you won't find anywhere else on Oahu. You’ll hear the hiss of the steaming wand and the rhythmic clinking of ceramic mugs, set against a backdrop of lo-fi beats.

A Local Ritual

Because the shop prioritizes a streamlined workflow, be prepared for a brief wait during the morning rush as the baristas meticulously weigh every dose. It is a favorite haunt for local creatives and those who treat their morning brew as a meditative practice rather than just a quick pick-me-up. While seating is limited and can feel a bit cozy when the mid-morning crowd rolls in, the focus on quality makes it an essential stop for anyone wandering through the neighborhood looking for an honest, expertly prepared cup.

Wifi not available during the weekdays - only available for members. Will likely not come back and wouldn't recommend this place to a friend. If you're looking to do some online work while grabbing a bite/drink, I would recommend other cafes (Kakaako Cafe which is down the street, Starbucks). If you're looking to buy a co-working subscription, then maybe this place is for you. Food - I got a match latte and the mango ricotta toast. Both looked great and were alright. Service was friendly - just a bit odd that wifi was not provided unless you are a co-working member or working from here on the weekend. Wifi seems pretty standard at cafes nowadays especially when you're paying $20 for toast and a coffee. Atmosphere is okay though it's a bit hot on the patio.

Authentic pour over. Tons of menu options for the pour over ranging from Ethiopia, Kenya, and Columbia. These are more expensive and can run out. Coffee is served 6:30 AM until just before closing (1:30 PMish), but the workspace for studying and coworking is open later. On the second floor of the ward village center. Barista was so sweet and really good at making coffee! Super quick too. There were many orders, and she was handling it all on her own! Pour over was done perfectly so you can actually taste the flavor of the bean. Good outdoor seating with large tables and umbrellas for shade. Breezy too! Free parking in the garage.
