Island Flavors at the Marina

Perched right on the edge of the Hawaii Kai marina, Tropics offers a relaxed open-air setting that captures the essence of East Honolulu coastal living. As you walk in, the salt-kissed breeze blends with the faint sound of boat engines idling nearby, creating an environment that feels miles away from the dense bustle of Waikiki.

Local Grinds by the Water

The kitchen leans into classic island comfort food. The menu frequently highlights fresh catch sourced from local waters, often prepared with ginger-shoyu glazes or simple, flame-grilled techniques that let the quality of the fish speak for itself. It is a favorite spot for locals looking to unwind after a day of paddling or hiking the nearby Koko Head trail. The vibe is strictly casual; don't be surprised to see sandy footwear or board shorts at the next table.

A Few Things to Know

Because of its prime location overlooking the docks, parking in the surrounding shopping complex can get tight during peak dinner hours or weekend brunch rushes. If you secure a table near the water, you get a front-row seat to the sunset painting the marina in hues of violet and gold. It is the kind of place where you come for the cold beverage and stay for the low-key, unpretentious atmosphere that defines true island hospitality.

Very large menu for a Pub & Grill. I have had 2 meals there. Sliders are over cooked and when I asked for medium I was told it was restaurant policy all sliders must be cooked well done. Pasta chicken was great. My wife had Fish and Chips that were flavorful and Cajun seasoned fries that were excellent. One night we went was Trivia night and that was a lot of fun. The speciality margaritas were quite tast.

This place is more about drinks and vibes! My first impression of this place was “oh it’s bar food” so I’m down for it. BLOWN AWAY by how perfect my sirloin steak was prepared! Medium well to perfection and the fry’s were awesome and crispy. … cheese pizza for the kids needs ALOT OF WORK…. But service was good. Vibes were good.. I ate my steak. Niece didn’t eat her pizza. We enjoyed ourselves

I have come to Tropics a couple times and the food is great. The Brussels sprouts and soy wings are the best. The catch of the day Mahi was so fresh. I would come again. The service was phenomenal and Todd behind the bar is top notch.

5 stars for beautiful setting, very kind and attentive server and for the taste of the food, 3 stars for the menu - it lacks a couple of menu items that are vegan/ plant based (everything has meat, dairy, cheese). To the management: Please add something with protein for vegans, such as a veggie burger (not Beyond Burgers though- all chemistry), a noodle dish with veggies, veggie pizza with plant based cheese. Also found the pricing of $14 (!) for this appetizer plate of brussel sprouts to be excessive. The area on the deck by the pool table needs to be a bit cleaned up.

Excellent dinner, the burgers are seriously amazing, flavorful and the brioch bun... outstanding! The mac n cheese w/pork was Great!! Sorry for the bad pics of burger, I took the pic after eating most of it along with lots of amazing onion rings. Brandon was great, friendly & prompt service, huge servings, plenty to take some home. We will be back!!

I got to experience it in their first week open, and it's my new favorite in the area. Kassidy behind the bar was great, Chad was super friendly and helpful, and the chef, Rob, made some of the best food I've had in a while. Tons of beer options, liquor, and food. There is plenty of seating, a pool, and darts. They also say that coming soon, there will be slips to park your goat or jet ski and enjoy. Highly recommend, and the shishito peppers and poke bowl are phenomenal.

We went on soft opening night, and there were a lot of things going for it: very affordable dinner menu (most entrees below $20), solid drinks, and a great server who was attentive. I’d give it a couple weeks, though, for them to iron out the kitchen kinks … took 45 minutes from being seated to getting our food. Our server, who also works at the Waikiki location, was apologetic but there wasn’t much she could do. We saw that tables around us weren’t getting their dishes any faster - but we were patient since we knew that it was their first night. She acknowledged they expected a slow night …. But Hawaii Kai has been waiting for this place to open, so expect crowds as word gets out. The food was excellent - my husband loved his Fish Tacos - the fish in my Fish and Frites and in his dish were fresh and perfectly fried, as good as Nico’s in town. The fries were ok. They didn’t change the old Liko’s layout or decor much - tonight the crowd seemed younger compared to the Liko’s regulars, hopefully this means they’ll be drawing from a wider dining pool. We’ll return after a couple weeks and I fully expect to award more stars once their kitchen hits their stride.
