Tropics Ale House (1778 Ala Moana Blvd)
About
A Waikiki Hangout for Beer Lovers
Located just steps from the energetic heart of Waikiki, Tropics Ale House serves as a reliable home base for those finishing a long day at the beach. The atmosphere here is unapologetically casual, trading white tablecloths for a laid-back, open-air pub feel that invites you to trade your flip-flops for a cold pint.
The Brews and Bites
The menu highlights local craft beer culture, featuring an extensive selection of Hawaiian-made brews that rotate frequently. Pair your pour with their signature hearty bar food; the garlic fries and local-style sliders are the standard here, designed for sharing while catching a game on the oversized screens that line the walls. You will notice the energy shift during happy hour, as the space fills with a mix of visitors and local residents enjoying the breeze coming off Ala Moana Boulevard.
Local Vibe and Practical Notes
While the service is friendly and efficient, keep in mind that the acoustics can get quite lively when the house is full. It is the kind of place where conversations happen over the hum of the crowd rather than soft background music. If you are exploring the western edge of Waikiki and want a straightforward, no-nonsense spot to escape the humidity with a chilled glass of IPA, this is your destination. Parking in this part of Honolulu can be a bit of a challenge, so consider walking or utilizing local transit to ensure a stress-free evening of hops and heavy snacks.

Walked in off the street during a short rain storm, greeted by Dave with a smile on his face. Sat down ordered a few happy hour drinks and a few appetizers, everything was great. Friendly staff at the bar.Excellent music playing in the background. Wish we found this spot a few days earlier as we are leaving Hawaii tomorrow.

We had a wonderful evening! Our dinner was amazing and the server was very attentive to us. We are so happy we went early so we could get a table without waiting. Plus the sunset was perfect as we sit and watch it from our table

**Outstanding Food with a Few Drink Surprises – We'll Be Back!** ⭐⭐⭐⭐ My husband and I recently visited this place and had a fantastic overall experience. I went for the garage chicken, and it was absolutely outstanding! The sauce was spot on – flavorful without being too heavy – and the rice was nicely cooked. The karage itself was perfect, adding just the right touch. My husband ordered the tacos and really enjoyed them; he said they were solid and tasty. For drinks, I tried the Paloma, but it wasn't my favorite – it came across a bit too bitter for my liking. However, their happy hour peach drink was DELICIOUS! 🍹 I highly recommend it if you're looking for something refreshing and sweet. We'd definitely eat here again – great vibes and food that hits the spot. Thanks for a memorable meal!
