Fuel Your Honolulu Adventure

When the humidity peaks in Honolulu, there is a certain rhythm to grabbing a cold, fruit-forward meal that fits the island pace. Tropical Smoothie Cafe offers a go-to sanctuary for those looking to skip the heavy fried foods without sacrificing flavor. The air inside is consistently crisp, a welcome change from the sidewalk heat, usually humming with the rhythmic whir of high-powered blenders preparing signature drinks like the Island Green or the Sunrise Sunset.

Built for Active Lifestyles

This isn't your typical sit-down cafe. It is designed for the grab-and-go crowd, making it a functional stop for beachgoers, surfers, or professionals working in the heart of the city. You will notice the menu leans heavily into functional ingredients—think whey protein, spinach, kale, and fresh ginger—perfect for a post-workout recovery or a quick lunch break. Their flatbreads, particularly the Chipotle Chicken Club, offer a smoky crunch that pairs surprisingly well with the tart, icy profile of their fruit smoothies.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

While the service is typically swift, keep in mind that the foot traffic near this location can be dense, especially during the lunch hour rush. Parking in this part of town often requires a bit of patience, so factor in an extra five minutes if you are planning to swing by for a quick pickup. It’s an unpretentious, straightforward spot where the priority is keeping you cool and fueled for whatever your Honolulu afternoon holds next.

Only go here if you want to leave hungry and be ripped off! Being a life-long vegetarian then vegan, I have had many Buddha Bowls in my life, and this one at Alo, IS NOT IT! It was terrible! For $16 the portion was abysmal. A couple pieces of dry kale and a couple pieces of shredded carrot is what they call a salad. They only gave me a millimeter of dressing in the dressing cup, as you can see in the photo, so I could barely even taste it at all and ate a small dry boring salad. I asked for no potatoe salad b/c I do not eat mayo, even vegan mayo, as I just do not like it. They said they would give me extra curry lentils to replace it. Great! They did not do that! You can see the space where the potatoe salad was supposed to be and they did not replace it with anything, and the tiny portion that they did give me of lentils was literally frozen...it had ice chips in it! Gross! What kind of lentil curry is frozen?! Clearly it is not fresh nor was it heated up, even if it was pre-made. Curry is supposed to be warm and satisfying; this was anything but that. You can see in the pic how empty my take-out order was, and that is when I first opened it. It was the lightest take out box I ever held...I literally thought they gave me an empty box by mistake before opening it. I ate the portion of rice they gave me in 3 small bites, and the piece of avocado was mostly brown (definitely not half of an avocado as advertised). The banana bread plate is also a rip off for $13 as you get 3 tiny squares of it, one cut up strawberry and a couple blueberries, nothing like the picture on their menu. Nothing had much flavor at all, and now I have to figure out what my real lunch will be after that pitiful, unsatisfying snack they charged $36 for. Never again! There are so many better vegetarian and vegan places to eat on Oahu that actually feed you and are delicious. Skip this one for sure! Wish I had!

The offerings are few but the dishes are nicely executed. The Buddha bowl was a Buddha plate. The different sides (potato salad, curry lentils, kale salad) were very tasty. The cold spicy noodles were wonderfully al dente. We were looking for a healthy and smaller portion eating venue and liked that we could dine al fresco in the shade.

Love the small cafe vibe of this place! I got an açaí bowl with peanut butter. Kinda filling, actually. I’ve been here a few times and I always get a warm feeling. Will definitely be back again.

ALO at SALT is such a gem! The staff is incredibly warm, welcoming, and eager to serve. The interior of the café is thoughtfully decorated with the cutest bohemian-beachy style interior. The food at ALO is plant-focused with tons of flavorful, nourishing options. I highly recommend the Firecracker Tantan Ramen for a spicy, satisfying meal and the Sunrise Iced Tea for a refreshing drink. Theres seating indoors as well as a few little tables outside if you prefer to dine outdoors and soak up the vibe of the neighborhood. Definitely a go-to spot for a light feel-good meal! Highly recommend! We’ll be back!

We really wanted to love this as much as the five-star reviews that we now question indicated. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. There are kinks to work out. Service was very nice. Shoyu ramen was too salty and way over the top with onions. Very off. The breakfast wrap was okay but nothing special. Nice ginger drink.

The quality of the food is incredible: all organic, made from scratch, and the employees take the necessary time to prepare it properly rather than just churning it out. The recipes are incredible. My parents are obsessed with their açaí bowls! I love the ramen! The environment is also really lovely and very friendly staff.

Went here for some acai bowls, totally did not disappoint! The highlight was definitely the Ramen, super thick and tasty. Just the right amount of spice. Cacao Bowl was also my favorite! Try it out when you visit. Shout out to the staff too, best location!!

Service was wonderful! Big open space with fully open front doors. Seating is cozy as well. Got the açaí bowl which was good. Only issue is that the some of the individual chairs are too tall for the tables. Also, the chairs and tables are very wobbly and may be easy to tip over
