Mastering the Art of Binchotan Grilling
Tori Ton brings the precision of Japanese izakaya culture to the heart of Moiliili. Upon walking in, the first thing you notice is the rhythmic clatter of skewers hitting the grill and the savory, charcoal-scented smoke that clings to the air—a sign that they are doing things the traditional way over authentic binchotan charcoal. The heat from the open kitchen warms the narrow dining room, creating an environment that feels more like a hidden alleyway spot in Tokyo than a local Honolulu favorite.
What to Order
The menu is a celebration of the chicken in all its forms. Their signature Negima—tender thigh meat alternated with scallions—is seasoned perfectly, balancing the smokiness of the grill with the sweetness of the charred aromatics. If you are feeling adventurous, the tsukune (chicken meatballs) are a textural standout, often served with a raw egg yolk for dipping to add a rich, velvety finish to the smoky charred exterior. Pair these skewers with their selection of cold sake or a crisp Japanese beer to cut through the salt.
The Local Experience
This is not a spot for a quiet, formal dinner. It is loud, vibrant, and packed tight with people who know exactly what they are looking for. You might find yourself bumping elbows with your neighbor, but that is part of the charm here. Be mindful that parking in this part of Honolulu can be a bit of a puzzle, so arrive early or plan to walk a block or two. It is the perfect destination for anyone craving an authentic, unpretentious late-night bite that focuses entirely on high-quality ingredients and the transformative power of a well-tended flame.

Place was a lot of fun, we can see how it could be dangerous once you start drinking and just ordering on the fly. The food was great and you absolutely felt that you were in a Yakitori restaurant in Japan. This one is a must visit if you are in the area.

I’ve been coming to this yakitori spot for a while now, and it never misses. If you're looking for authentic flavors and that perfect smoky char, this is the place to be. Every skewer from the perfectly salted thigh to the succulent chicken skin is consistently grilled to perfection. A huge part of why I keep coming back is the incredible service. I have to give a special shout out to Nako who is absolutely wonderful. She is consistently attentive, makes the best recommendations, and always manages to make me feel right at home with her warm personality. She truly elevates the entire dining experience. Whether you're here for a quick bite or a long dinner with friends, you’re in good hands.

It’s our first time here. Although the food is great, the service is rather disappointing. One server took the wrong order for one of the skewers. When we asked her what the skewer was since we didn’t recognize it being the one ordered, she refused to admit that it was a mistake. Instead just stated that the wrong item was what we ordered. They also kept asking if we needed more drink when we already had three total (four adults but only two will drink), which sounded pushy.
