A Colonial Legacy on Waikiki Beach

Stepping onto the open-air deck of The Veranda at the Moana, you are immediately transported to the early 1900s. The iconic white railings and Victorian architecture of the Moana Surfrider create a frame for the deep azure waters of the Pacific. As the flagship dining experience within the historic building known as the First Lady of Waikiki, this space captures the refined spirit of old Honolulu.

The Art of Afternoon Tea

The culinary focus here is unmistakably centered on their legendary Afternoon Tea service. Expect tiered trays arriving with delicate finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and preserves, and a curated selection of loose-leaf teas. The scent of hibiscus and plumeria often drifts in from the Banyan Tree courtyard just steps away, blending with the subtle aroma of steepingly fresh Darjeeling.

What to Expect When You Visit

This is not a spot for a quick bite; it is a place designed for lingering. The soundscape is defined by the soft rustle of palms and the clinking of porcelain against lace-covered tables. It is ideal for those celebrating milestones or travelers looking to escape the high-energy pulse of Kalakaua Avenue. Be aware that the popularity of this historic venue means the dining room can feel quite intimate during peak hours, and securing a spot beneath the shade of the grand roof requires a bit of forward planning.

Whether you are local to Oahu or just passing through the heart of the city, the experience relies on the rhythmic transition from the bustling beach crowd to the quiet, shaded serenity of the veranda. It remains a cornerstone of Hawaiian hospitality, bridging the gap between the luxury of the past and the casual elegance expected by today’s visitors.

My sister and I were pressed for time and needed to find a half day tour. We opted for a private tour with Hawaii Rainbow Tours. Paulo customized our tour based on our interests. We were able to see so much of Oahu in 5 hours. Paulo provided so much information about Hawaii and Oahu, the tour experience was made that much richer. Hawaii Rainbow Tours is a must do for visitors and a great value.

Rob is going to be the best you can get for your $. He is very spiritual and very passionate and that's what you want. It's a tour bus not a party bus do not come entitled with alcohol. You're there to learn not get wasted.. worth every bit of your $ and then some. You get history like no other bus, I will tell you right now. Lunch is great, all the stops he gives you a few extra minutes of leeway. I most definitely recommend Aloha Rainbow Tour. Just have respect for him and the culture as it should be anyway, and you'll have the time of your life 🤘🤙 Mahalo.

Paulo was a great guide! We were 7 people including 2 kids. We had a few spots in mind but wanted to avoid a 16 stop cross island tour. Rather wanted to cover a couple of the top beaches (take time to take photos, get our feet wet, swim and not rush), some vista points and have lunch at the shrimp trucks. We asked our hotel concierge if they could connect me to someone who would do a custom tour for us in one large car. That’s how we booked with Paulo. He showed up on time with a mini coach with a cooler and some maps. He took us around our intended route with a couple adjustments he suggested that ended up being great! We also connected with him personally and better understood the HawaiIan people, lifestyle, politics, housing markets etc. He was professional, funny and very knowledgeable in Hawaiian history. Thoroughly enjoyed the chats while hitting up some beautiful spots. Highly recommended!

Paolo was the best tour guide we have ever had. His knowledge of the island is amazing. He accommodated all the little stops we wanted to make. (Our love for the chickens and their babies running around). The lunch(Huli huli chicken) he brought us to will be unforgettable, so delicious!!! Will definitely get in contact with him on our next visit! Paolo keep doing what your doing and teaching people about your home! Marty mears and family!
