Fuel Your Morning in the Heart of Ala Moana

If you find yourself navigating the expansive corridors of the Ala Moana Center in Honolulu, the bright yellow aesthetic of The Sunrise Shack provides an immediate jolt of optimism. Originally born on the North Shore of Oahu by the Smith family, this outpost brings their signature surf-culture energy to the urban bustle of Midtown Honolulu. You won't find a heavy, formal dining room here; instead, it is all about grabbing a nutrient-dense pick-me-up that feels like a beach day in a cup.

Potent Bowls and Bulletproof Coffee

The menu is intentionally lean and focused on high-performance ingredients. Most regulars swear by the Peanut Butter Bowl—a rich, creamy blend that somehow tastes indulgent while remaining entirely plant-based. If you need a serious caffeine kick, their Bullet Coffee is legendary among local surfers and early-bird shoppers alike. The blend of grass-fed butter and MCT oil creates a frothy, smooth texture that cuts right through the morning haze. You can hear the rhythmic hum of blenders echoing against the polished concrete floors as staff prepare orders with rapid precision.

A Quick Note on the Scene

Because this location is situated within a high-traffic retail hub, do not expect a quiet lounge for long, lingering conversations. It is a high-energy transition point, perfect for a post-workout recovery or a quick nutritional boost before diving back into the mall. Parking at the center can be a bit of a labyrinth during weekend peak hours, so keep your eyes peeled for the yellow signage near the main mall arteries. It is the perfect spot for health-conscious locals and visitors who want a genuine taste of Hawaii's wellness-focused food scene without driving all the way to the coast.

Friendly service, quality drinks. Really happy how it’s in the food court because it’s so convenient to grab a quick drink or acai and either take it to go or enjoy it with a meal. Tropical smoothie was so fresh, thick, and fruity. Honey was a bit sweet and gets a little clumpy when cold with the smoothie. Overall still a solid smoothie.

BEST smoothie bowls on the island. My husband and I have had the monkey bowl 3 days in a row… Had the salmon toast too and it was incredible. The worker was SO kind and even gave us a sample of something else. 10/10 service!

Absolutely delicious! I had the original ACAI and my daughter tried something different, the monkey bowl. Definitely having this again. Super fresh and tasty. Just what you want on a hot day. It was busy in the store and it was made quick but the team on today were a little slow responding to the people waiting to order, otherwise it was a great experience

Your place to make a connection. The Sunrise Shack is tucked away in Ala Moana food court. It's one of those organic healthy for you sort of places. That being said the food lacks the fat, sugar and salt that would bombarded you at other places. There is flavor though, it's subtle as the natural ingredients allow. What took me by surprise is the friendliness of the staff. At times busy at others not do much. They took the time to show a real interest in greeting me and a conversation to go with it. By the time I left the counter I felt that someone cared enough to listen and to do more that spue "may I take your order please" or a "what do you want". Which is all to common now a days Stop in an have something healthy for a change. As always shop and support local businesses. Ps: they have a sun on the ceiling. A place can't be bad with a frickin sun on the ceiling. Go have a peek!

Food was fine but overpriced in my opinion; each food item was over $16 and the small drink was over $8. The avocado toast being priced this way without even having some kind of protein or side feels particularly appalling. I only picked up the order while my husband submitted it remotely, otherwise I might have chosen something of better value. Once I arrived, I expected orders that were ready to become visible at the pickup counter so I sat down to wait as I was 10mins early. However, no names or numbers were ever called so I eventually went up and asked. Turns out they keep the orders tucked in the back so who knows how early my order was ready.
