A Bold Evolution of Vietnamese Flavors

In the heart of Honolulu’s historic Chinatown, The Pig and the Lady has transformed from a humble farmers market stall into a culinary landmark. Chef Andrew Le brings a personal touch to the table, infusing traditional Vietnamese recipes with a contemporary, locally-inspired perspective that defies simple categorization.

What to Expect on Your Plate

The menu is a playground for the senses. You will likely hear the energetic chatter of the dining room before you even see the food, as the space maintains an industrial, lively buzz that feels quintessentially urban. The signature Pho French Dip is a mandatory experience; it arrives with a rich, aromatic brisket broth that smells of star anise and toasted spices, served alongside a banh mi-style sandwich that demands to be dipped. The Lechon Kawali, featuring impeccably crispy pork belly, highlights the kitchen's mastery of texture and heat.

The Downtown Vibe

Stepping into this space, you are met with high ceilings and a polished concrete aesthetic that keeps the focus squarely on the vibrant colors of the herbs and sauces. It is an ideal spot for groups who want to share a variety of small plates, though be prepared for a bit of a squeeze; the tables are packed closely together, making for an intimate—if occasionally loud—dining encounter. Parking in the surrounding Chinatown blocks can be a bit of a treasure hunt, but the combination of inventive cocktails and the complexity of the herb-forward dishes makes the extra effort well worth it for anyone seeking an authentic slice of modern Hawaii dining.

We made a reservation a month ago, and it was absolutely worth the wait! All the food we ordered was delicious, and our waiter was incredibly nice and kind. My only tiny critique is the drink menu—the cocktails were a bit too "hip" for my taste, and I found myself wishing for a few more classic or normal options. Still a fantastic meal overall.

This place books up fast for reservations. We were lucky to get a last min cancellation booking. I had high expectations as I heard good reviews and I saw a few instagram posts about this place. I usually get let down when I have high expectations. We’ve eaten around the world and we’re from Vancouver, Canada, where it has one of the most well rounded and best food as a home base. This met the expectation and more. Usually my go to at a Vietnamese restaurant is just pho and a lemon grass plate but we had to try something different here because the menu was different. We’re really glad we did. We got a little sample set of some appetizers at first like chilled oyster, vegetable roll and tatami toast. Then our entrees came out and we tried the mushroom estufao tagliatelle and shutome filet. I was kind suspect about an egg on pasta but it was amazing. When we go back to Waikiki, we would definitely come back again. Would be one of the first places we make a reservation in advance. Thanks for a great time

We had a great experience at The Pig and The Lady. The food was super tasty, with especially impressive vegetarian options that felt creative and full of flavor. Everything tasted fresh and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. Our server Justice was spectacular and really elevated the experience with attentive, friendly service throughout the meal. You can tell there’s a lot of care that goes into both the food and presentation. We enjoyed it so much that we already booked a reservation for dinner to visit again.

Highly rated restaurant, came to check out the hype. The one dish we tried was the pho French dip, and it was great. Rich broth. Hand cut noodles were nice, but didn’t make or break the dish. The brisket was tender and savory. I would definitely try this dish. Very crowded and loud inside and outside. Ensure you make a reservation. Don’t expect to walk in because the restaurant is very busy. Bar seating, indoor, and outdoor seating. Servers have a lot of ownership over their dishes which is great! Parking is only validated for a discounted rate in the garage, it is still paid. The prices of the dishes are high, compared to typical Vietnamese restaurants. However, I think the quality of the food is worth it (although I cannot speak to the authenticity).

Despite hearing of this restaurant all the way in Texas the reviews had me a bit concerned. It turns out that concern was for no reason at all because this restaurant is great! We stopped in with an 11:15 reservation only to find out I made it for the wrong day. The hostesses were so kind and found us a seat at the bar which turned out to be awesome. The bartender was super personable and friendly and made our meal even more enjoyable. We started with the Green Papaya Tea Salad which was amazing. Great sour notes from the papaya and sweet notes from the dates. It was refreshing and a great way to start our meal. After that we moved on to the Bun Hue Sai Gon which had super tasty noodles and meatballs in a remarkable broth. Everything about it was delicious and fresh. We paired it all with a Vietnamese Iced Coffee which was stellar. Service was quick and the restaurant was very comfortable. Don’t hesitate, get in here! Highly Reccommended!

We will be thinking about this food for years to come! I didn’t think coming in that I would like most of this food because I didn’t know exactly what it was but oh my goodness, some of the best food I have had all year! My husband ordered two of the same lamb appetizer (once as an appetizer and again after his entree) because it was that good. The drinks are amazing, we ordered the run it back and part of your day twice because it was that good again. The ahi mini starter toast was delicious and I don’t really like fish like that. I personally also really loved the pho! We took all of our recommendations from our waitress Pat and she was spot on with everything we ordered. She was great too! If we are ever back in Oahu, this will be our first stop! My husband doesn’t even like Vietnamese food and it was his favorite food on the trip! WOW so good. Make a reservation or go when they open!
