A Slice of Italy in the Heart of Kaimuki

Stepping into The Little Oven feels less like dining out and more like dropping into a friend’s kitchen in the hills of Tuscany. Situated right in the middle of Kaimuki, this unassuming spot has built a loyal following for those who value substance over flash. The space is intimate—bordering on tight—so don’t be surprised if you end up shoulder-to-shoulder with a neighbor, but that’s part of the local charm.

Handcrafted Pasta and Slow-Simmered Sauces

The kitchen operates with a focus on simplicity. You won't find overcomplicated fusion here; instead, you get classic, handmade pasta that hits the table steaming. The scent of roasted garlic and fresh basil is the first thing to greet you at the door, often followed by the clatter of silverware and lively chatter. Their signature lasagna is a labor of love, featuring layers of delicate pasta and rich, slow-cooked ragu that tastes exactly how you hope it will.

The Neighborhood Pace

If you are looking for a frantic, high-energy bistro, this isn't it. The Little Oven thrives on a slower tempo, making it a perfect destination for a low-key date night or a quiet midweek dinner when you want to avoid the tourist-heavy crowds near Waikiki. Parking along the residential side streets can be a bit of a puzzle during peak hours, so give yourself an extra five minutes to scout a spot. It is a genuine neighborhood haunt that proves you don't need a massive dining room to deliver a memorable, authentic Italian experience in Honolulu.

This has got to be the worst dining experience I have ever had. There is a Ferrari in the restaurant, not sure why. Unfortunately I should have gone with my gut when we were looking at the menu outside. The server was wearing so much cologne that I felt like I was choking. Not sure what we were thinking but we chose to sit indoors. The entire place smelled like his cologne. Even the pizza couldn’t overpower that smell when it arrived. No tap water only bottled water which they had the nerve to charge $2/bottle for. We ordered the Romana pizza. It was a thin crust pizza with a meh crust, the sauce is indescribable and not in a good way. Sausage and mushrooms were ok. Definitely not worth $28. I’d rather get Little Caesar’s. Some guy walked in while we were leaving and was made to sit at a 2 person table when the whole restaurant was empty besides him and us. Did it really matter if he wanted to sit at a slightly larger 4 person table? I can’t wait to get that smell out of my system.

it's not your olive garden! Food is cooked from scratch based on authentic family recipes from the owner's family in italy. I've been eating here every time I've been in town since they opened several years ago. It's a great hidden spot off the main waikiki strip. You can avoid long lines and waits for the restaurants down there on busy nights if you don't have a reservation. I recognize the same wait staff since they opened and the owner is in the restaurant a lot. The food and service will not disappoint. Wine selection is small, but it works.

This was our fourth time dining here and it was incredible. Being raised in an Italian family in New York with a grandmother born in Italy, this is the closest food to true authentic Italian anywhere in Hawaii. We live on island, and this place has quickly become our top favorite date night restaurant. The pasta is fresh, homemade and flavorful. The Mediterranean salad is so delicious, and the desserts are amazing. The outdoor dining is quaint, and romantic on a side street off of the noise of kalakaua. The service is friendly, and the prices are comparable/lower than restaurants in the area with much less quality food. Highly recommend this restaurant.
