About
Bold Flavors Near Kaka'ako
Tucked away in the industrial heart of Honolulu, The Elephant Shack serves as a direct pipeline to authentic Thai street food. When you walk up to this humble food truck spot, you are immediately hit with the sharp, acidic aroma of fresh lime, crushed chilies, and bubbling curry vats. It is not the place for a quiet, candlelit dinner; you are standing on concrete, listening to the hum of nearby traffic and the clatter of woks, but the food commands your full attention.
What to Order
The menu keeps things focused, centered around crowd favorites like the Pad Thai, which arrives with a satisfying crunch of bean sprouts and a deep, tamarind-forward base. If you crave heat, the Green Curry provides a generous, sinus-clearing kick that lingers just long enough to make you crave a cold drink. Everything is prepared with a speed that matches the high-energy neighborhood surrounding it.
The Experience
This is a destination for the lunch crowd and local foodies who prioritize substance over decor. You will likely be eating out of a takeout container while standing or finding a nearby bench, which feels entirely appropriate for the casual, no-frills setup. Parking can be a bit of a challenge due to the busy flow of Kaka'ako commuters, so prepare to circle the block or walk a short distance to secure your meal. It remains one of the few spots where the quality of the stir-fry remains consistent, bite after bite, making it a reliable staple for anyone working or exploring central Honolulu.

It's a food truck with many others and even has a drive through. The food at the elephant shack is amazing. Great seating area in the outdoor atmosphere with a few games to play while you're waiting. I had the Pad Thai and then grab another to go. Yumminess !!

Our favorite Thai spot on Oʻahu! We come here every month with our dog. The Thai basil fried rice is packed with flavor, and the yum nua is fresh, perfectly seasoned, and so satisfying. Everything we’ve tried has been delicious.

We stopped by Elephant Shack and ordered the Pad Thai with chicken and the Kapow , both were delicious! The flavors were spot on and everything was cooked perfectly. The portions felt a bit smaller than we remember, but the taste definitely made up for it. We originally wanted to order the Yum Nua, but noticed the price had gone up to $26 (it used to be around $21). Still, the food was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying as always. The workers were both very friendly, and the overall ambiance was cute and welcoming. Even with the price changes, it’s still one of our favorite casual Thai spots to visit when we’re in the area.
