The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (999 Bishop Street)
About
A Downtown Honolulu Coffee Staple
Situated right in the heart of the Financial District, this location on Bishop Street serves as the primary fueling station for the busy professionals of Honolulu. Unlike the frantic pace found in tourist-heavy beach areas, the mornings here are defined by the rhythmic hum of espresso machines and the focused tapping of laptop keys. It is the kind of place where power suits and aloha shirts mingle over iced lattes before the workday fully kicks into gear.
Signature Sips and Daily Rituals
While the menu is vast, locals often gravitate toward the signature Ice Blended drinks. The Original Mocha and Vanilla flavors remain the go-to choices, providing a cooling, sugary reprieve from the humid island heat. For those looking for something less dessert-like, the selection of whole-leaf teas, particularly the Chai, offers a warming complexity that holds its own against the standard coffee house fare.
The Downtown Dynamic
Walking into this space, you are met with the familiar, roasted aroma of Arabica beans that defines the chain's global identity, yet the energy is distinctly urban Honolulu. The seating area is optimized for quick meetings or solo work sessions. Be mindful that the proximity to the surrounding office high-rises means the queue can stretch toward the door during the 8:00 AM rush. It is a tight, efficient space, so if you are planning to settle in for a long afternoon, arrive just before the lunch hour crowd surges to snag one of the prized window seats overlooking the bustling intersection.

Their coffee is way better than Starbucks. Not as many fancy options, but if you just want a good cup of coffee, even Decafe .

All of the CBTL where I live closed down, so whenever I visit Honolulu, it is a must-get for me. I especially love the caramel ice blended—ultra smooth, sweet, and delicious! Additionally, given that this particular location was only a 5 minute walk from my AirB&B, plus the very friendly barista made it all that much better! 5 stars

This Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf location is inside the First Hawaiian Bank tower on the ground floor in the hallway. The space is tight and when there are afternoon drink promos the line wraps to the elevators. It's usually one barista taking the order and making the drink so it can be awhile. They have a small selection of pastries in the display and a fridge on the side with grab and go items (sandwiches, wraps, pasta salad, fruit cups, yogurt). You can enjoy your coffee and food there; they have a few small tables on the side but no privacy as people will walk by. I recommend the plantation iced tea and li hing lemonade. Before you visit, check their instagram (@coffeebeanhi) to see if they have any offers.
